Okay, Bob....so this is the conversation that I had with Jordan at school that made me feel so Special...Jordan picked up my agenda (which have many, many doodles) and was looking through all the pictures. He slammed down my agenda on my desk and said
"It's just not fair!"
"What's not fair?" ...(this is me)
"It's not fair that you're that good in drawing and I'm not!"
He turned back towards his desk and took out a piece of paper. He spent twenty minutes on the paper and then laughed, crumpling up the paper to throw away. I pleaded with him to show me, he refused. But then he took out a picture of his girlfriend and handed it to me.
"If you you were to draw this girl....where would you start? The hair? The eyes?"
First of all, It touched me that he wants to draw the person that he cares about...I find it very appealing when a guy wants to take the time to examine his girlfriend's face intensly to replicate it into art, because he'll notice things of her that he never noticed before,... and with each line and shape that he makes to form her face, he'll feel so unworthy to mimic the bueaty of her face that was created with utmost perfection from heaven. *sigh*....I wish I had a boyfriend....OH! RIGHT! Back to the story!
So I showed him How I would start the Picture, to start basic with the skeleton, then add more detail of shape with skin and hair, and then the difficult stuff like the nose. He looked at what I had so far...
"Rachel.....when you started with the skeleton, even THAT looked better than what I can draw..."
"Stop it, Jordan. You can learn!" I thought for a moment. "Jordan,....what do you like to do in your spare time?"
"Um...I play guitar,...I...um, what does this have to do with anything?"
"Well, when you hear a song off the radio that you really like and you try to play it out on your guitar...does the first time sound great?"
"Duh! Of course not."
"But when you keep playing the same thing over and over, learning and memorizing the patterns....."
Jordan rolled his eyes. "yeah, yeah, yeah. I get it, 'practace makes perfect'......but it's different with a guitar."
"How so?"
"With art, you have no guidelines. With a guitar, you got music to tell you pluck here, pluck there, play these notes.."
"You got a picture that is telling you make a line here, make a circle there, add shadeing here...." I tapped my finger over the picture of his girlfriend. "This is the music."
Jordan kinda just stared at me for a momment. I thought he was going to make fun of me for that last line....it sounded corny as soon as I let it slip from my mouth.
"You know what, Rachel......you'd make one heck of a modivational speaker...or art teacher. Either one."
SCORE! As you know, Bob, I hope to become an English teacher one day...and modivational skills are excellent signs of a teacher!!!! That's one of the most highest compliments you can get ( aside from "I love you" and "no you're butt does not look big") So....I just wanted to write this all down so I could remember it later, just in case I have any doubts about my leadership skills in the future! So thanks for making room for the entry, Bob.
