I'm not a huge fan of conflicts being misunderstandings, but this was written so naturally and it makes such SENSE that Gee just wouldn't REALIZE because SHE DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION, HERE, OKAY that it WORKS.
Oh my God, the way you describe Frankie - so visceral, so AMAZING, so fucking HOT, UNFFFF, omg. I love how inverted this universe is, and how the names are just a little off, but make so much sense (P.S. Don't Write, etc) I love love LOVE that Frankie is the unabashed POWERHOUSE of the band, and how the guys know that, are okay with that, how she is the leader. NRGGGGHGHHH. And I love that Gee falls for her IMMEDIATELY. The language here is so beautiful:

But after listening and listening to the mix there was something about the songs - New and Like A Virgin in particular - that made it feel RIGHT to me that it COULD be this mix is about Gee getting together with a girl, as someone who hasn't maybe done that before, or who hasn't had a lot of experience. So with that in mind, Frankie was born.
I had WAY to much fun writing Frankie. I surprised myself, because once upon a time in my old fandoms I was all snobby about the idea of genderswapping characters, (because I lot of the early genderswap I read felt very Mary Sue-ish) but bandom has some really AWESOME genderswap fic out there (some of it written by you!) which totally changed my mind. So I wanted Frankie to still have FRANK at her centre, but I had a lot of fun playing with the details. Dear god I want someone to draw this Frankie, I can see her so clearly in my mind, with her sweated-through wifebeater, and black bra strap showing and her low-hanging jeans just all tiny and hot and awesome. Yeah, okay so I maybe fell a little bit in love with her through this process - but COME ON, girl Frankie with the skunkhawk - YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT.
Oh god your reaction to the interrupted conversation when Frankie was warming up to put the hard word on Gee at the party - PRICELESS. Exactly what I was hoping for! There's this quote that I can't find right now, but it's from some interview with Ellen and Portia where they say something along the lines for their first date was dinner and a movie then they went home and made love for 24 hours (something like that, I'm paraphrasing) but that was totally the feeling I was going for, when it's new and AMAZING and you're just so insatiable for this person, right?
And the ENDING and PENCEY PREP and the image of Frankie in TAFFETA and COMBAT BOOTS, seriously, I cannot even.
The fic originally ended with the "I'm so weird thing" but I just kind of WANTED that epilogue. And my beta was like "why are you adding an epilogue, you don't need one?" but i REALLY REALLY wanted Frankie in taffeta and combat boots, okay? REALLY REALLY. I'm so glad it worked for you and it wasn't to schmaltzy, because ugh, it all felt so SELF INDULGENT, but I just WANTED IT.
God girl, thank you SO MUCH. I was SO unsure about this fic and so worried about making it work not only because the mix was so awesome but also to make it work as a genderswap fic and as YOU are someone who writes awesome genderswap and you REALLY love the mix - so you loving it SO is like the biggest compliment ever.
