2011: My year in fic!
Okay, I was going to wait for stuffsit reveals so I could do final numbers, but I am too impatient! Here is my 2011: A Year In Fic post
Black Satin - Early days Gerard crossdressing as Lyn-Z fic, Gerard/Lyn-Z, 7000 words
I wrote this for no_tags and it was HARD and time was TIGHT but omg I DID IT. I was so blown away that I'd managed to start the year with a het fic. Also this was the first time I participated in no_tags and it was SO fun. I love anonymous exchanges, I find them really liberating and I love seeing how people react to a fic when there is no writer attached.
Mind Your J's and G's - Pegging where Frank accidentally says Gerard's name in bed instead of Jamia's and she just rolls with it, Frank/Jamia, 4500 words
All mizubyte's fault. Again. It was weird how I wrote two het wife-fics in a row - what a way to start the year.
A Good Teacher Misfits (TV) fic - Simon learns about sex from a good teacher, Simon/Simon, 6000 words
MISFITS FIC. I don't even KNOW, man. Misfits is NOT my new fandom but after seeing the show I was hanging for some selfcest and when I couldn't find this fic on any of the kink memes or fic communities I just had to write it myself.
Reaching Through The Mirror - Time travelling selfcest where Danger Days Gerard and Basement pre-MCR Gerard do the nasty, Gerard/Gerard, Frank/Gerard, 5800 words
Oh man, the fic that birthed an EMPIRE. A crazy fill on anon_lovefest because I thought it would be fun to write Gerard/Gerard self cest. Also, this continued the pattern of writing things in twos for 2011 - two het wife fics followed by two self cest fics. Little did I know this cracky little anon prompt fill was going to kick off my crazy Time Travel Verse.
That Rockstar Shit - Pre-band fic where the boys are faily at flirting, Mikey/Ray, 1600 words.
Silly fic greedy_dancer and kopperblaze made me write while drunk, in all it's unbeta'ed glory. I'm pretty sure there is still an error in there where Mikey takes a drag from a cigarette he's already passed to Ray. But what the hey - I was DRUNK, okay?

Written for piratesunk's Get Pedicone Some Meme, which happened prior to, you know, Pedicone being unmasked as EVIL. I actually had a lot of fun writing this, posting it in parts, and playing around with the different dynamics of each band member cornering Pedicone. Pity no one will EVER READ IT AGAIN. Ugh. FUCK YOU, PEDICONE.

Written for bebunny's birthday, because she's always been a fan of the dom!Frank fics. This one took it a step closer to the GSF this 'verse keeps inching towards.

My Wave One bandombigbang and oh man, what a monster. I think it was 30k when I submitted my first draft - chock full of notficced placeholder scenes - and it just exploded from there. A ridiculous labour of love, I had to beg extra time and a late posting date to even get the thing finished but oh man, I'm so glad I did. This 'verse definitely defined my year in writing.
Practise Makes Perfect - Teaching/learning how to kiss ficlet, Gerard/Mikey, 1400 words
Baby's first Waycest - written for turps33's Bandom Kissing Meme which gave us SO MUCH good fic. turlough described this as innocent and fluffy in a way she never thought Waycest could be, and I admit I surprised myself with it too.
Closing The Circuit - Established threesome fic, Pete/Mikey/Alicia, 6000 words
Written for mizubyte's birthday, I hit the trifecta of MCR creepy wife fic this year by writing my first Alicia fic! I was pretty happy with how it turned out too. I like the idea of Pete falling in love with Mikey AND Alicia.
Feeling A Moment - Where Frank is annoying and Gerard is pretty, Frank/Gerard, 1500 words
I missed out on being able to participate in pod_together because of the madness that was my Wave One bandombigbang but when podklb offered me the opportunity to do something similar I leapt at it. It was such fun co-op and I love the podfic that came from it so much.
A Milkshake With Two Straws - Where Gerard is oblivious and Frank is persistent, Frank/Gerard, 2000 words
Written for free2hate who won me in amproof's Dollar Drive. A fun little fic to write! I love the idea of Gerard being so lost in his art he doesn't realise Frank's been hitting on him.
Tell Me Something True - The Mikey/Ray backstory from Time Travel 'verse, Mikey/Ray, Frank/Gerard, 14 700 words
My Wave Two bandombigbang tracing Mikey and Ray's story in that verse, and also going into more detail about how the world came to be the way it was in 2019. Started out as a bunny, got chatficced into something more with the help of anoneknewmoose who was an invaluable resource in getting this thing done.
Getting It - Where the Ways pretty much corner Ray into a threesome, Ray/Mikey/Gerard, 6000 words
Written for the moldypitsandall Dirty Bandom Challenge, and while I technically burst my Waycest cherry with Practice Makes Perfect, this was the fic where I really secured my place in hell.
Timestamp - A timestamp from the Time Travel 'verse - 5 years after Frank gets back to his own time, Frank/Gerard, 1500 words
One of the fics that came out of the Timestamp meme, because ciel_vert wanted to know what happened 5 years later. Writing this really helped me fit my head around my own ideas about what happens in that 'verse, so I am so glad she asked, and I answered.
There were actually a whole bunch of ficlets and notfics that came out of the Timestamp Meme, and a few that came out of the so-called three-sentences meme (though as mizubyte pointed out so gleefully, I didn't actually write three sentences of ANYTHING)

I was particularly enamoured with the Pete/Mikey dustverse fic that came out of that, I like the idea of those two depending on each other in that kind of environment. It was also fun to play around in both exsiting and new 'verses in a keep-it-short kind of way, though I didn't always pull that off. I have this terrible habit of building more around a fic or fic snippet so there's always more story to tell. It means I'll never really be done with any 'verse.
Theory and Practice - A Mikey-centric gangbang! Mikey/Ray/Frank/Bob/Brian, 3700 words
More proof (as if it was needed) that I can't write commentfic. Inspired by inlovewithnight's bandom gangbang commentfic meme and it's birthed a whole 'verse in my head that will all end in GSF if I'm not careful. I really enjoyed writing it from Frank's POV too, and seeing Ray and Mikey's relationship through his eyes.
PLACEHOLDER FOR MY STUFFSIT FIC!
I also made my very first podfic this year, which was actually quite fun. Just a short one, for tuesdaysgone's fic Bulletproof. What an eye-opening experience that was, and while I always had a lot of respect for the awesome podfic artists out there, after having a bash at it myself I am even more impressed with their work. I would like to try to do some other, longer fics if I ever get enough time to myself.
Total number of fics: 19 fics, 2 "commentfics" that are really fics (over 1000 words), 2 not!fics, 4 ficlets, 1 podfic
Total word count for 2011: 144 296 words (excludes my bandomstuffsit fic)
If you add on the 50 000 words I wrote for my NaNoWrimo, and my stuffsit numbers that gets me up around the 200k mark! I'm happy with that.
Overall thoughts.
Considering I started a new job in May and have been working LONG HOURS pretty much consistently since then AND that I did and won Nanowrimo in November - I feel like I've done okay for 2011!
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
To be honest, I don't think I had any real expectations of how much I would write this year, so I guess that means I wrote more than I expected by default. I'm pretty pleased I managed to do both waves of bandombigbang again, I didn't think I'd pull that off two years in a row, so I'm quite proud of that, even if my wave two wasn't 20k.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
LOL Misfits! It is NOT my new fandom, I swear. On the Bandom side, I guess I'm pretty surprised at how often I wrote non-OTP fic, but I'm pretty happy about the variety. Also that I wrote so much self-cest. I didn't think that would become "my bag" but it so has.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Oh god. Oh GOD, that is like making me choose between my CHILDREN. If I had children. If I WANTED children. IDK, I mean the time travel 'verse really shaped my year and I still have so many stories I want to tell from that world, so I guess that makes me happy, that I still have so much to say, about Frank and MCR trying to save the world, about 2019 Frank in 2005 and possible cracky side tales about what Mikey and Ray might've gotten up to with the time displacement gear (you know Mikey wants to double up with two Rays. Come on.)
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Well, writing Tell Me Something True in short-ish scenes scattered over more than a decade was a bit of a risk. I had so much story to tell with that fic, but I didn't really want to sit down and write a 50k fic about the end of the world. I wanted the focus to be Mikey and Ray and their relationship - so I hope I pulled that off.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Well I got published this year! That was pretty cool. I guess I'd like to write more original stuff, and try to make that happen again, even if it won't be in Filament since my story was in the last ever issue. :'(
I'd also like to edit and fix up my NaNo story and get that posted, plus there is also my BRBB which is my next most immediate writing goal.

Oh god impossible question is impossible. I'm pretty happy with James Cameron, though I do feel like it's deeply flawed in places. From a wording/pacing/mood perspective I was pretty pleased with the Pete/Mikey dustverse commentfic I don't even know why, maybe because it's the only dustverse I wrote this year and I missed it. I also really liked the schmoopiest gangbang because it was so emotional and relationship-based for an act that is usually just about sex. Ask me tomorrow I'm sure it'll be something different.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion.
It's funny, I hadn't realised until it was recently pointed out to me that as soon as you add a third person to a pairing you drop your readership by 50% but it's kind of true. As always I'm really happy anyone reads ANY of my crazy ramblings, but I guess I have noticed that the threesomes/moresomes don't get as much of a response as I sometimes expect (but the quality of responses is awesome ♥) but then I kind of LOVE threesomes so I'm not exactly a great yardstick to go by here.
Most fun story to write.
Reaching Through The Mirror, for sure. It was so fun to play with Gerard and Gerard, his narcissism and his reactions to himself.
Story with the single sexiest moment.
Oh man I don't know. The moment where Ray realises Mikey is jerking off to him in Tell Me Something True is pretty hot... or there's Gerard humping Ray's ass while Mikey sucks him off in Getting It or the moment when Ray lays his hand on Frank's back while Frank's fucking Mikey in Theory and Practice, reminding him he's going next... Having said that, hands down my favourite sex scene of the year has got to be from James Cameron Got It Wrong though - Frank and Gerard sliding around on the sweat-slick leather in the back seat of the Trans Am and just being so fucking desperate for each other. I fucking love that scene. I know, I'm so humble.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters.
Um, okay, I feel like I learned a LOT about Frank in James Cameron Got It Wrong, just by writing his reactions to 2019, the way he gets angry at Gerard for not knowing enough, for not doing enough, how he deals with his feelings for Gerard. Prior to writing that fic, I'd not written that much long fic from Frank's perspective and I feel like his immediacy, the braveness behind his knee-jerk reactions became clearer to me. Also, I feel like I'm getting more into Ray's head now that I'm writing him more and he's becoming less shy and faily and more competent and awesome.
Hardest story to write.
This is a tie between my Stuffsit and JCGIW. My Stuffsit... for reasons I can't really discuss because it would give me away. (Also because I was SO SURE it sucked.) James Cameron because while some of it just FLOWED like a river (the whole section where Frank lands on his ass in 2019 right through the car chase and him asking what the fuck happened just flowed from my fingertips, I can't even) there were huge sections that were like puling teeth (all the stuff with Brian, the raid, all the stuff explaining technology) SO hard to write omg. Writing is HARD and it's a terrible hobby. WHY DO WE DO THIS?
Biggest disappointment.
Oh man, I don't know. Maybe Like A Secret Handshake because I had so much fun writing it and now it's SPOILED FOREVER because Pedicone is an asshole.
Biggest surprise.
Probably that my cracky anon fill Gerard/Gerard story grew into this crazy big verse where MCR have to save the world. That was a surprise.
Most unintentionally telling story.
Oh man, I don't know, they are all kind of telling in a way. Theory and Practice maybe, because of all the poly stuff, but I think a lot of the telling ideas in that 'verse are in the wider 'verse that only exists in my head. Also, my stuffsit is pretty unintentionally telling but for reasons I can't yet discuss.
In conclusion.
I wrote a lot of porn! I branched out and wrote pairings and characters I'd never written before (The wives! *coughwaycestcough*). I wrote quite a few fics featuring Ray because there will never be enough Ray fic. I wrote more het pairings. I wrote a lot of self cest. I wrote a lot of interconnected fics in 'verses. I wrote a bunch of threesomes and group sex. My aims for last year were to write more of my own ideas and not just to prompts and I DID. I didn't really set out to write a wide variety of pairings, but I'm glad that's what happened. I always get nervous about writing pairings outside of the popular OTPs because of the perceived drop in readership, but I'm getting over that and I want that to become less important to me. I just want to tell the stories I have in my head, and not let what's popular dictate what I write.
Now that's a lot of navel gazing and a whole LOT of words! If you got through all that I love you. Well I got published this year! That was pretty cool. I guess I'd like to write more original stuff, and try to make that happen again, even if it won't be in Filament since my story was in the last ever issue. :'(
I'd also like to edit and fix up my NaNo story and get that posted, plus there is also my BRBB which is my next most immediate writing goal.

Oh god impossible question is impossible. I'm pretty happy with James Cameron, though I do feel like it's deeply flawed in places. From a wording/pacing/mood perspective I was pretty pleased with the Pete/Mikey dustverse commentfic I don't even know why, maybe because it's the only dustverse I wrote this year and I missed it. I also really liked the schmoopiest gangbang because it was so emotional and relationship-based for an act that is usually just about sex. Ask me tomorrow I'm sure it'll be something different.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion.
It's funny, I hadn't realised until it was recently pointed out to me that as soon as you add a third person to a pairing you drop your readership by 50% but it's kind of true. As always I'm really happy anyone reads ANY of my crazy ramblings, but I guess I have noticed that the threesomes/moresomes don't get as much of a response as I sometimes expect (but the quality of responses is awesome ♥) but then I kind of LOVE threesomes so I'm not exactly a great yardstick to go by here.
Most fun story to write.
Reaching Through The Mirror, for sure. It was so fun to play with Gerard and Gerard, his narcissism and his reactions to himself.
Story with the single sexiest moment.
Oh man I don't know. The moment where Ray realises Mikey is jerking off to him in Tell Me Something True is pretty hot... or there's Gerard humping Ray's ass while Mikey sucks him off in Getting It or the moment when Ray lays his hand on Frank's back while Frank's fucking Mikey in Theory and Practice, reminding him he's going next... Having said that, hands down my favourite sex scene of the year has got to be from James Cameron Got It Wrong though - Frank and Gerard sliding around on the sweat-slick leather in the back seat of the Trans Am and just being so fucking desperate for each other. I fucking love that scene. I know, I'm so humble.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters.
Um, okay, I feel like I learned a LOT about Frank in James Cameron Got It Wrong, just by writing his reactions to 2019, the way he gets angry at Gerard for not knowing enough, for not doing enough, how he deals with his feelings for Gerard. Prior to writing that fic, I'd not written that much long fic from Frank's perspective and I feel like his immediacy, the braveness behind his knee-jerk reactions became clearer to me. Also, I feel like I'm getting more into Ray's head now that I'm writing him more and he's becoming less shy and faily and more competent and awesome.
Hardest story to write.
This is a tie between my Stuffsit and JCGIW. My Stuffsit... for reasons I can't really discuss because it would give me away. (Also because I was SO SURE it sucked.) James Cameron because while some of it just FLOWED like a river (the whole section where Frank lands on his ass in 2019 right through the car chase and him asking what the fuck happened just flowed from my fingertips, I can't even) there were huge sections that were like puling teeth (all the stuff with Brian, the raid, all the stuff explaining technology) SO hard to write omg. Writing is HARD and it's a terrible hobby. WHY DO WE DO THIS?
Biggest disappointment.
Oh man, I don't know. Maybe Like A Secret Handshake because I had so much fun writing it and now it's SPOILED FOREVER because Pedicone is an asshole.
Biggest surprise.
Probably that my cracky anon fill Gerard/Gerard story grew into this crazy big verse where MCR have to save the world. That was a surprise.
Most unintentionally telling story.
Oh man, I don't know, they are all kind of telling in a way. Theory and Practice maybe, because of all the poly stuff, but I think a lot of the telling ideas in that 'verse are in the wider 'verse that only exists in my head. Also, my stuffsit is pretty unintentionally telling but for reasons I can't yet discuss.
In conclusion.
I wrote a lot of porn! I branched out and wrote pairings and characters I'd never written before (The wives! *coughwaycestcough*). I wrote quite a few fics featuring Ray because there will never be enough Ray fic. I wrote more het pairings. I wrote a lot of self cest. I wrote a lot of interconnected fics in 'verses. I wrote a bunch of threesomes and group sex. My aims for last year were to write more of my own ideas and not just to prompts and I DID. I didn't really set out to write a wide variety of pairings, but I'm glad that's what happened. I always get nervous about writing pairings outside of the popular OTPs because of the perceived drop in readership, but I'm getting over that and I want that to become less important to me. I just want to tell the stories I have in my head, and not let what's popular dictate what I write.
Now that's a lot of navel gazing and a whole LOT of words! If you got through all that I love you.
