Been a long minute, hasn't it?

A VERY LONG minute... to say the least!
SO, LJ now wants payment in Rubles, the world is still crazy with the Covid, and I haven't worked in 3 months or so... not because there wasn't work, but because I caught Mono.
That last one is the biggest mystery to me, honestly. How does a person catch "The Kissing Disease", when they haven't KISSED anyone in 20 years? (Mind you, I'm not counting familial pecks on the cheek or forehead, I'm not counting air kisses across rooms, I'm talking the kind of kissing where yes, you ACTUALLY swap spit, in whatever minute amounts, that transmits the disease!) The only thing I can think of, that makes even remote sense, is that some teenager at some fast food place I frequently visited when I worked, must have sneezed, coughed, or spoke over my food before it was served to me at the drive through, and they WEREN'T wearing their f***ing mask! If I ever find out who it was, there's a Ralph Kramden moment coming in their future... Pow! Zoom! Straight to the MOON, Alice! I'll give them one right in the Kisser, all right.
Because of some stupid teen being careless, This damned bug bypassed all the precautions I ever took to NOT catch anything that could potentially harm me or my clients. I ended up flat on my back for WEEKS, unable to take care of myself or Mozzy-dog, much less anyone else. And because of that, I missed out on Pat's last days completely. She passed away on the 8th of this month, and I never got to see her again after late July when the symptoms showed up. She didn't want me around until I was SURE that I was non-contagious. (Honestly, I think that was her way of making distance, because she knew the cancer was about to make its move and take her. And it did...)
Worse? All the reading I've done on the subject of Mononucleosis is pretty useless. I was apparently contagious for some 4 to 6 WEEKS before the symptoms showed and I went thud. And NOBODY can tell me when this damned bug actually goes dormant. (Like Chicken Pox, it'll be in my body forever, now.) It could be 2 months, or 6 months, or 18 months before it goes dormant and I can be around people without a mask again. (Given the Covid situation, at least I don't look like quite so much of a freak, wearing a mask anytime I leave the house.)
Just to add insult to injury, when I first felt poorly and went to the local Urgent Care? Yeah, THEY "Diagnosed" me with a "Peritonsillar abscess", slapped antibiotics on me, and said go home. 36 hours later, when the antibiotics had done NOTHING, I knew there was something wrong, and thank Goddess, my sister knew it, too! She came and got me and took me into the ER, because I could NOT have driven myself at that point,- and they did tests, started an IV, took blood and came back with the Mono result. (We both looked at the Doc like she'd grown a second head at that point, see above comment about 20 years?!) Frankly, that F*ck up from the Urgent Care could have killed me, as I was dehydrated and getting weaker, and the anti biotics could have caused a bad reaction if I had kept taking them.
I ended up BACK in the ER about a week later, when I looked in the mirror and noticed I was turning yellow... NOT a pretty shade on a redhead's skin or eyes! Turns out, Jaundice/ Hepatitis/ Liver issues are common side effects of Mono. Yay. It just gets better and better... (I think I'm back to my proper shade of pallor now?)
As it is, 3 months and I'm still taking sudden unexpected naps, getting tired REALLY easily, and still trying to get my STR business going, because going back to full time Caregiving is looking less and less viable. I kind of want to keep one client, just so I can keep my Union membership, but I'll look into that later. Maybe I don't have to be an active caregiver, if I pay the dues regularly?
So, that's the crazy going on in MY world, how about you? Oh, and just because I don't want to totally freak you all out with a total wall-o-text post... A dragon! or two!

mono, dragon, sickness, life the universe and everything else
