Teens, Books and Stupid People

Well yesterday, teens finally decide to sleep in so what happens? I end up waking up at 6:10 am unable to get back to sleep. Teens finally wake up around 10 am so a little after that, I decide I'm finally tired enough I can lay back down for a bit. Tell the teens, I'll take them out later and we'll grab something to eat when I get up. So I lay down and doze off only to be awakened 20 mins later by eldest telling me that a certain restaurant closes in an hour. Twenty minutes is just long enough for me to wake up a royal bitch. I point out to said teen that I had let his ass sleep in undisturb all morning. He tells me that he was trying to help by telling me how close to closing time it was for KK. Umm did I mention a certain restaurant before laying down? Are they the only place in town which will sell food to his unconsiderate ass? So now I can't sleep again and say to hell with it and get up.

We go out to eat. While sitting in the restaurant, my eldest begins to tell me that his girlfriend's father (they just moved to Chicago and both father and girlfriend are complete airheads on my shitlist anyways) is gonna call me. He wants to talk to me about how if eldest is a good boy can he come out to Chicago for spring break to stay and spend time with his girlfriend. Umm HELL NO! Kid will just be 16 then and there ain't no way in hell he going to go out there with raging horomones and ignorant adults around. Son starts copping an attitude and begins to tell me how I don't trust him and how his father would be chill with it. So I take my trusty cellphone and call his dad. I ask him to solve a discussion for us...Son wants to know if it would be ok if he went to spend his spring break with his girlfriend in Chicago this year. My son asks me what his response was. I told him, "Well when he stops laughing and answers, I'll tell you." This proceeded to set the tone for the rest of the day. Teen is now pouting.

So we leave the restaurant and head over to our city library only to be told that we can't do anything there cause all their PCs are down. So we load back in the car and go to a county library. Now we can't find our cards for the library so fill out applications for replacements. Take the applications to the Libarian and tell her we'd like replacement cards. She looks us up in the system and says we already have cards and don't we have them? I blink a moment and say, "No that's why we filled out apps for new ones" She says she would have to charge us for them. I tell her "Fine, how much?" Now she says, "No, you can't have them cause there are outstanding fines" So I ask about the fines. Seems my son had checked out 4 books on June 27, 2000 that were never returned. So I ask about the books and the fines. I ask why I have never heard about them. She then asks if I still live at Blah blah blah address. Now I'm thinking, you are holding our applications which state our address which is different than what you have so no but instead I just answer her. She says that's why I hadn't received notification. I then say "Well, if you owe fines, they usually take it from any state income tax return you have and since I have received mine for the past few years, what gives?" She doesn't know. I point out that they obviously have my new address and even know where I workd due to my tax returns so wouldn't they use those? She doesn't know. So I ask how much are the fines. Since it has been so long, I would have to pay for the books which cost about $30. So I pull out my checkbook and start to write. She then proceeds to tell me that I can't pay the fines today because they only clear them on weekdays. I just look at her and say "So you won't take my money?" She says "well if you come back on Monday, we can clear it all up" as she hands me back the applications. I fold them up, smile and tell her "See you in another four years then" and leave. Now I ask you...if you hadn't been able to find someone for four years who owed you money and they were standing in front of you, would you turn down the money? Would you also give them back the papers which held their new address without writing it down? I mean...WTF!?! Only at a government place!! *shakes head*

So off we go to the bookstore. Upon entering it, I stand and read a sign about how they are collecting donations of books to help with the literacy problem. It asks people to donate their books, etc. I'm thinking to myself, Hrmm that sounds like a good idea, I can do that. So I look for where to bring them. That's when I notice the sign says, "To donate, purchase blah blah blah" What!?! To give you something for free, I have to make a purchase? Umm how is that donating? Whatever!

Whacked out day to say the least..Got a few new books and went home.
