Mutation Nation Signing Mysterious GalaxySan Diego, CA
January 14, 2012
2:00 p.m.
Join me for my first signing of the year as I hang with editor Kelly Dunn and authors Wendy Rathbone, Jarret Keene, Stephen Woodworth, and Charles Muir. We're signing the anthology Mutation Nation, which includes my story, "Nickelback Ned." More about Ned soon.
Author and Rainstorm Press publisher Lyle Perez-Tinic will be there, too, signing his own collection,
Death's Too Short.
Night Terrors II
Blood Bound Books is releasing Night Terrors II this Friday, January 13th, 2012! The anthologies includes my horrific science fiction story, "Revivified."
At Louche Ends
My publisher tells me that my poetry collection,
At Louche Ends: Poetry for the Decadent, the Damned & the Absinthe-Minded, is doing very well. I'm thrilled because it's a wee dark pearl formed over many years, further proof that saltwater and irritants can produce something lovely. Thanks to everyone for the support.
Why So Quiet, Maria?
The secret is out. I've just finished the first draft of a humorous paranormal memoir. Yep! Paranormal as in freaky, supernatural-spooky uberwoo, flashing you from the flip side. In conversation, I've never shied away from telling people when certain stories are based on supernatural (or rather "extranatural") experiences in my life. And I've certainly enjoyed sharing about
dogma, Darth Vader and my sexual awakening. But I've rarely communicated and never tried to write publicly about the series of profound, mind-blasting events that changed my life forever. It's taken many years to figure out how to tell my story -- how I turned from Christian fundamentalist to simple fatalist -- and now I think I've done it. Many amazing people have already given me their support, for which I'm very grateful. There's lots more work to be done, though. Here's hoping I can slice through it with one smooth shinken cut. Hai!
Because life isn't busy enough apparently, I'm also still getting No Rhyme Goes Unpunished to agents and editors. My reading at the "Emerging Writers Showcase" for
Sisters in Crime in December was a big success. I had so much fun and was thrilled to hear people laugh in all the places I'd hoped they'd laugh. SiC is a great organization and I've always felt supported there -- even more so now. I'm pleased to be a part of it.
