If you haven't already guessed the answer is "yes, yes it was."
This story would probably be far more entertaining for you if I told it to you in person, but you'll all have to deal.
So I was walking to the bus stop at 9:15 after work when I had this thought, "Hmmm, having gallivanted around the city all day, and having not stopped at home before being dropped off at work, it would seem, Megan, that you do not have your house key." A quick rummage of the purse proves this is, indeed, the case. And, of course, mom is working out of town and probably won't be home until 11pm.
Never fear! I have friends. Friends with phones. And lo, I have a phone too. So I start calling houses. No one is home. Not to panic. My friends have cell phones. Surely they will answer cell phones. They do not answer their cell phones. So I say to myself, maybe my fair nursing friend is working a magical shift at our favourite long-term care facility and that she is done at 9:30. I call her house, trouble her mother again, and discover, no, that would have been way, WAY to easy. I call another number, of a friends who live way out by the highway and no where near me. His number is busy. Grrr. So then I call my aunt and uncle who probably go to bed early.
"Hello uncle, do you have my house key?..Oh you do, splendid! I shall be there in half an hour."
Hmmm, what shall I do while I wait for my bus. I shall read my book...oh wait, I left that in my freaking locker.
At the university we picked up a drunk man in a wheelchair. The bus driver asked where he was going. Oh, he was just going to take a ride. He'd be with the bus driver until morning.
Sucks to be you, Mr. Bus Driver Man.
Of course, having said that I'd be there in half my bus driver decided he needed to talk to ALL the other drivers downtown and we started out late. I asked for a transfer. I sat and twiddled my thumbs. I arrived at Rever at 10:11.
"Excuse me, Mr. Bus Driver Man, what time will you be on the other side."
"I leave the other end at 11:14. So if you are there at 11:16 you'll be fine."
Uh huh, you do realize what time it is now and there is no way in hell that you'll get to your end point by that time.
I ran across the street. Ran half a block. Reached Haslam. Ran another block. Cell phone rings. "Oh hello, Ms. May. Horrible evening as well? Asthma attack...coming on...talk to you later."
Ran two more blocks. Obtained the key and booted it back to Rever. Waited for the bus. Got on bus. Drunk man was still there. We got to the light. The drunk man thanked the bus driver for letting him sight see.
"So, what street is this?"
"This is the 70."
Way to listen bus driver man. This is Attridge. Okay, he's slurring 'cause he's drunk. We'll let it slide.
"Holy shit!"
Okay, Mr. Drunk Man. Out city doesn't have a 70th St. so we're not as far as you think. Or maybe we are. That's our route number."
My phone rings.
"Oh heyz mom. I'm on the bus. No, no..the bus home. Walking at Berini. Of course, I'll call when I get home. Why didn't uncle drive? Taking the bus, saving the environment, hoping to run into a kung fu gang."
Got home. Yayz. No kung fu gangs. :(
