Wow. I was just in a ton of pain today. Had to take a full Tramadol, half with breakfast, half with lunch. We didn't do morning dives today, we did afternoon dives; I had to take a half-hour nap to sleep off the last of the Tramadol loopies before diving.

The first dive was a bust, and I'm glad the kidlet stayed home instead of going with today, because it was ridiculous. The current was so bad we couldn't even get to the reef, there were sea urchins every which way the surge tossed me, and the shoreline where we got out was damn near carpeted with the things. I'm amazed neither of us got our hands or feet or arms or legs or heads or etc. sliced up/stung.

The second dive made up for it, though. The deepest we got on the first dive was a measly thirteen feet, so we didn't bother with the usual "your deepest dive is your first dive" rule. We wound up going all the way down to ninety-five feet, where we saw a whole colony of garden eels. Really cute critters. We swam back pretty slow after we'd gotten back up to about twenty feet, so we'd have an extra long safety stop. One nice thing about shore diving here is that your trip back to shore is your safety stop!

Somewhere along the line I got a small gash in the heel of my hand. They don't allow you to wear gloves while diving in Bonaire--if you're caught, no one will give you any more air tanks! So even though we're really careful about not touching the reef, accidents still happen. But at least it's a cut, and not a sea urchin sting!

My shoulders and knees and feet are going nuts again; they quieted down really well for a while during and after diving, but now I'm aching again. It's that damn mattress. I'm sleeping with a lounge chair mat underneath my shoulders, but it doesn't help much. Tonight I'll try sleeping with one of the bed pillows under my shoulders and one of the big couch pillows under my head. Hopefully that'll let me actually sleep. I may take a couple Elavil tonight as well; we're taking the day off again tomorrow to do more laundry and offgassing, so I won't need to worry about residual sleepies.

Friend S. hasn't emailed with any Lady updates; I'm worried that I may have given her the wrong email for hubby (because I had to look up his school email address, and there were a jillion email addies all over the place). So hubby will email her tonight or tomorrow and ask how everything's going.

I'm thinking our next long vacation only needs to be ten days, rather than two weeks. I've actually been slightly homesick ever since we flew out.

And now I'm going to stop bitching and moaning, because I'm on a gorgeous island in the middle of nowhere, going scuba diving almost every day, with hardly any housework and all the reading and relaxing I want to do!
