Community vs Glee

Community's writers may not like Glee at all, but I wish they wrote it, because seriously, rewatching S1 or S2, you see little hints from episode to episode that suggest that they have the whole season planned out ahead of time. The dalmation thing for the Dean in S1, for example, or in Aerodynamics of Gender in S2 Abed's robot-vision has side notes on when the girls' periods are coming up, to dos like confirm Xmas with his mom, celebrate Troy's birthday, and build a blanket fort. All of these things come up in later episodes. Whereas, S1 and S2 Glee really make you think that they're making up most of it as they go along, and not just to the degree where they can incorprate things that are happening in real life. Sometimes this is good, but without a stronger plan for what they want to do, often it results in a confusing mess. They just now realized that they need to have plots that span more than an episode, and it seems like they realized this, came up with a bunch, and decided to cram them all into every episode, without necessarily considering the characters that should be driving those plots. And parts of the dialogue this season are just sloppy and hard to even listen to.

Even more, although all of the characters in Community are occasionally terrible people, they are sometimes great people, and always human and full of likable and unlikeable qualities (though Pierce is debatable). Glee seems to think that they can tell us which characters to identitfy with, and it changes randomly, and the actors have to pick up the slack.

Prove me wrong, Glee. Show us that your writing has actually improved. And make sure that Finn doesn't call his mom by her first name anymore. That was weird.
