Yes, yes, yes! I too thought Dean laying bare his feelings was a *very* good sign. Last season, the brothers just kept hiding and piling up lie after lie to each other. Everything's not all right, but it can get better. And with the new ultimate focus being bringing down Lucifer (and Dean becoming Michael's meat-suit), I personally see this season just as Kripke's said it will be: a chance to reconcile the boys *and* save the world.
That's why I love Supernatural. It builds upon itself. It has a *plot*, a theme. It makes *sense*, goddammit.

This is true. Although since Bobby seems to only have tough love in him for Dean, and pretty much open acceptance for Sam, I don't think Sam can ever say he has no where to go.
There is SO MUCH I agree with in this. I was sad as anything about what Dean said at the end of the episode, yes, but like you I was also thinking 'no, that's okay, I'm cool Dean saying this, it's necessary, he needs to say it and Sam needs to hear it.' Now it's like you've gone into my head and broken down and typed up all the reasons I had for thinking that :D Thanks!
Plus, just to get two cents in, about this:
Sam tends to identify with his father when it comes to matters of vengeanceAgreed. And I feel one of his detox hallucinations supports this, namely the one of his mom. She tells him he should use his curse against the demons and Sam immediately asks if she means for revenge. Fake!Mary replies 'no, for justice.' Now, IMO, that's Sam's subconscious given form and trying to justify itself. He KNOWS his reason for killing Lilith is revenge, so he creates this image of his mom, the mom he never even knew and who must have therefore become an idolised, almost angelic figure in his mind after all the praise he would have heard

That's a good point about the vision of his mother. I should add it to my meta repertoire.
And yes, a little Dean/Cas here and there would be much appreciated!
