As Lex and Clark crowded around Lucas once again under the Griggs' strict and jealous glares, Lex knew for certain that he was laying the gauntlet down. This was his brother. This was his family. These were the people who crowded around him and made this miserable, brief, tortured existence worth the breath and pills that it took to sustain it. This sack of flesh and bones was nothing but a walking corpse, if Lex did not have his family around him to support, and to support him in return.
And he wouldn't let any force in the world keep them apart.
This is PERFECT. There is no comment I can give that will improve on this part, explain it or make it any better.
Yay: an update! Ooh, I love how Lex figured out what had happened to Lucas and went to the police. I must say I really like Detective Gray and he gave really good advice. Lex is going to have to fight to get Lucas, but how lovely when Lex vows to do what it takes. And what a lovely AU version of the "Cry havoc" line Lex used in Smallville to Lionel. I can't remember the episode but MR's delivery was so fabulous. Anyways, fighting for his brother is much more worthy of Lex's talents.
once again you completely knock me out with this story--any time you update this is an event for me. I have my little handful of favorites and this is definitely one of them.
I absolutely agree with Hero--Lex's thoughts about family were perfect. I got very sentimental about Mercy's leaving, and his reaction to it showed us how Clark is progressing. I love the little callbacks to SVClark--I like how they've gone from being a signal that something awful is going on to becoming wry little jokes. I like how you've shown us that Lex's job isn't the magic pot of gold, but it's sufficient to what they need--like real life. :) I like that they're progressing, and hopefully will get Lucas back, even though those Griggs look like they're going to be big pains in the ass...grrr!
Martha--what a BITCH!
Thanks for updating this and making me very happy!
