so, i got nostalgic and started watching Captain Planet on youtube. I'd forgotten that Whoopi Goldberg was the voice of Gaia... which is still funny to me, because that always sounded so close to Guinan, the name of her bartender character on Star Trek TNG. But really, you have to be a kid to appreciate that 1) no one comes from Europe. North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and "The Soviet Union" (Asia Minor) and 2) Despite coming from all these places, they ALL SPEAK ENGLISH WITH ONLY A HINT OF ACCENT DEFINING WHERE THEY'RE FROM. Gi does not bust out with Mandarin Chinese, or Japanese, or Vietnamese... (it's never clear what country she's from...)
