Right after my entry last night, I went on a walk through a castle, over the hills and through the woods, but not to grandmother's house. We (my class) stopped off at a watch tower and then went on to a beer garden, where I drank applejuice because I didn't feel like trying to down carbonated water. The castle was very claustrophobic, and the ceiling very low (most the guys were dodging spiders) but very cool. I'll have to go back again and explore some more. The hills were very hilly, steep and just plain too many. The woods were very pretty though. I think it is funny that of all the people there, only the guys were picking berries and fruit off the bushes and trees and eating them. The old watchtower was really cool, you could see really far (probably the point of it). The beer garden was also a farm, and I got to make fun of Illia, one of the guys in my class, because he could't stand the smell of the cow manure.
After we got back from that little jaunt, it was about 7:30, on a sunday, meaning everything was closed (if it had even opened). For dinner, Rosa, and Italian girl in my class, invited me up to her floor to eat some potatoes for dinner. We boiled them, mashed them, and had a good dinner while talking. After that, I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to call home, even collect like mom had told me to. Finally, I used my debit/credit card to call home, and good god that was expensive. I am going to have to get a calling card or something.
It was really wierd, calling home. Up to that point, I had been just fine, but finally reaching home after the frustration of not being able to, and I broke down. It is odd how you can not realize how much you want something until when you finally get it, it overcomes you. Actually talking to people was great.
Observation of the day: Money
The money here definately changes the way you treat change. They have one and two Euro coins, and the lowest bill denomination is 5, so you can easily accumulate several euros in change. In the US, change is something you just throw into a jar to collect when it accumulates, but you can't really do that here. Ok, I have an hour left for lunch, so I'm going to go.
