Sorry there was no entry yesterday, it was kinda crazy. Let's start with tuesday, because that was a pretty good day. We started out with lunch at a Chinese place, and that was really good, though I have no clue what I ordered. The names of the food is not the same. Steve took me to a place in the Altstadt where he knows the owner. Apparently, they got into an hour long conversation the day before and the guy like him. The place is an Italian restaurant run by a gentleman from Barcelona (in germany). When we went by, he gave me a free capuccino to try when I said I didn't really like coffee. He definately proved me wrong, that stuff was awesome. Then we had icecream at a place down the street from that. I am sure this stuff is freshmade that morning, it isn't hard frozen. I just had a vanila cone, but the taste was indescribable. It is like every other vanila icecream I have had was watered down. I don't know if I will be able to go back to bluebell. After that, we walked around a bit, and explored a market that was kinda like Target, only a lot more expensive (300 euros for a jacket), and then I went back to the Gasthaus to make sure I had everything in order to move out the next day.
Wednesday
Wednesday was the day I had to leave the Gasthaus, move into my room, and do the first paperwork for the Deutch-Kompact course I am doing this month. I met steve at 9:30 in the morning after leaving the Gasthaus, and we walked over to the building where we were doing our signing in. We got there really early, so the line wasn't that lone, but Steve had to go back to his room for his passport (and after we specifically discussed not forgetting such things too). We did the paperwork for the visa, and paperwork for the bank acount, which I set up too. At that time, it was about 11:30, and I decided it was time I went up and got my key so I could quit draging my overnight bag and book bag around. I caught a bus up to my place, and good lord that hill. No way am I walking up or down it, it is a freaking big hill. My ears popped just going up it. Once I found my building, and the Hausmeister's room, I realized he wasn't there, so I went back down to the office place where I was to make sure that we weren't doing anything that afternoon. We weren't, but I met two other girls (Celia and Kate) who had thought the same thing. They offered to help me with my luggage, so the three of us went off to get my really big bag from Steve's room (they actually live in the same place as he does).
Steve and Kate helped me get my stuff up to my room, after the Hausmeister gave me the key, and explained how the room worked to me. I have a phone connection, internet, and (I think) tv. The main light in my room is on a long cord that can be hung on three different hooks around the room, and I have a reading light above my bed. When I walked in, there was no mattress on the bed board (it has some storage boxes on either end, but still, just a board), and I was kinda worried until we realized that it was in the closet rolled up really tight. I also have a new duvet and pillow (we pulled them out of the plastic). The pillow is really small, and I need bedding, but I can take care of that today or tomorrow. It was around 5 now, and I went off to take a shower while Steve and Kate admired my view. I'm about half way up the building, and my window looks over the town, and I think the next town over, and the hills beyond that, it is really amazing. I haven't gotten much of a chance to admire it though, because after I took my shower, we met Celia for dinner.
Dinner was at the Italian place I mentioned earlier, and it was really, really, really good. I had a glass of wine with dinner (my first ever) and I felt really bad, because I couldn't finish it (it didn't really taste good to me, alcohol isn't something I am a big fan of) but Steve, Kate, and Celia helped me out with that. Then we went to the icecream place and got four different flavors of icecream and passed them around. All of them were really awesome, and now I am ruined for all icecream, not just vanila.
And now....I can officially say I have gone out drinking in Germany.
We met two other guys from A&M and two germans (one was their roommate, one was visiting him) and went out drinking. We went to one bar, where I had a drink and tasted everyone else's beer. At the second bar, I only had water for myself at first, because I didn't want to get drunk the night before a test, plus I was the only one who lived across town, so I would be going home alone. In the end, I had probably half a beer (it was two for one night, so one of the guys handed me their extra) and a shot of Jägermeister (is that how you spell it?). On the way home, Celia and I were joking about how we were the only sane ones there. One of the Germans and one of the guys from america were both crazy drunk, running around yelling, and steve was with them, though I don't think he was as drunk, and the other german was a cute drunk. He asked like four or five times where we were going, and didn't believe us when we told him we were taking him home. I wound up on Steve's couch lastnight because I had had enough walking.
So, this morning was the placement test and oral evaluation, and I think I was pretty good for it. Later today, we are doing a tour of the city (NO! not more walking!) and after that I am going to go back to my room, unpack, and enjoy my view (did I mention I have a freakin awesome view?). I don't know anyone over there yet really, but I should meet some people if I am actually there.
I don't know when I will get stable internet, because although I have a connection in my room, I need a university account before I can access it. So, sorry about that.
