I was watching the news two days ago before work started and I saw something that surprised me. Yes, I know there are a lot of protesters in this country and they are all trying to make a point with their chants and signs in the air. But what surprised me was the fact that they were standing in front of the New York New York in Las Vegas; the city I live in. Not only were they standing there, they were standing in front of the monument the Casino had
constructed for the attacks on 9-11.
Now my question is, how can the people of the United States be that idiotic?
Now this morning I was flipping through the radio stations and came across a country station, now I normally don't listen to country but there was a song that had caught my ears and it was the one that, over the last week or so, I have heard so much about. I do not know the name of the singer, so please forgive me, but the song is called, "Have You Forgotten" and now, I can
honestly ask that question, to all those standing in front of the New York New York that day and every day past that, and to all the rest of you standing in protest against the War on Iraq. Have you really forgotten already??
I am an Senior Airman in the United States Air Force, and though I have been lucky enough to not have received orders as of yet to join my brethren overseas I feel that I need to say that, just like so many others that have volunteered to put our lives on the line just so that you, the people that feel the need and have been given the right by our own blood to protest, can do just that.
I am proud to be called an American, and if after Thirteen years of
diplomacy, that hasn't worked, we need to go to war to bring down a man such as Saddam, so be it. It will be for the better of Iraq and all of the surrounding areas that are being threatened by him, including us, The United States.
If there are people like me that wish to put our lives on the line to protect what we think is dear, and means everything to us, who are you to cry and pout that we are doing the wrong thing. Just imagine yourselves as those people Saddam has dictated over for so many years, put yourselves in their shoes then tell me and every other military personnel that we don't have a right to try and better the world by getting rid of vermin such as him. Tell me and the rest of the military personnel that you wouldn't want our help in making your lives, if not a little better, at least livable.
Again I say, I am proud to be an American, and I would die to keep this country safe. There would be no hesitation, no doubt in my mind to what this country can do. This is where I live and I'll be damned if I am going to let a foreign dictator tell how I will or won't live, or even threaten my life and my way of living.
