The room was nearly dark, the only illumination was the dwindling fire in the fireplace.
Tom Ryan sat on the couch. His strong frame hunched over, his head in hands. “I don’t know how much more of this I can take . I’ve lost more men on this project than I ever did in Afghanistan.” His voice was so raw it hurt to hear it.
A hand pressed up against the back of his neck. The thumb rubbing small circles just below Ryan’s hair line.” Abby bit her bottom lip before she spoke. “I can’t imagine how devastated you are, but I’ll be here for you as long as you need me.”
