prompt: Home
Clint:
Where the Heart Is

Home is where the heart is.

That's what they always told him.

Home is a plot of far too green grass that looks too fresh and new. Home is a block of silvery-grey granite with far too few words carved into it. Home is filled with the battling scents of a thousand different flowers. Home is empty and cold. Lifeless.

Home is a single plot in a cemetery, mixed in with so many other plots. Home is where Phil has been buried.

That's why he's sitting here. Because home is where the heart is.

And his heart is buried here.

prompt: Hero
Fury:
I Believe

Hero.

Its the kind of word that people use all the time, but he has to wonder if they really know what it means. He's known a lot of men and women in his life that fit the definition. Most people think that heroes are extraordinary people who selflessly throw themselves before danger so that the common man will be safe. And that's true. To a point.

But he knows that real heroes aren't extraordinary at all. They're just plain, ordinary people who stand up to the wrongs in the world and do extraordinary things. He's seen it happen. He's seen men scared of dying throw all caution to the wind in order to help a child who might not otherwise survive. He's seen people with serious injuries push a medic aside so that they could save one more woman. One more child. One more pet. He's seen it all.

But he's never seen a group of people come together like the Avengers. He's never seen a group dedicate themselves so fully to saving the world that they forgot to worry about what it would cost them. They were outnumbered and still they fought. They never once considered that they'd get themselves killed. They never once said that it was too much for them. They simply did.

Some people don't want to believe in heroes. Some people say that heroes don't exist. He knows better. He's seen real heroes with his own two eyes. They're not perfect. They have their own problems. They're defined by their stations and their actions. They're defined by their own limitations and their humanity. But they're heroes and they deserve people's respect.

When people ask him if he still believes in heroes, he tells them yes. He does believe in heroes.

They're called the Avengers.

Natasha:
Rescue

She used to believe in heroes. When she was a little girl, she dreamt about them coming to save her. But she learned soon enough that there was no such thing as heroes. And she learned that, if she was going to be rescued, she was going to have to do it herself. She somehow never managed to do it.

But then the S.H.I.E.L.D. came along and Clint came along. They saved her. They gave her life purpose and meaning. They gave her something to strive for.

Now they call her a hero.

And she really kind of likes it.

prompt: Anticipation
Tony
Can't Wait

He holds his breath as the feel of silken skin glides across his own. The length of silky hair tickles and teases his nerve endings, leaving him aching. Hard. Yearning for more. A puff of moist, warm air explodes across the smooth, sensitive head of his cock.

They play this game every time. His hands are bound to the headboard, his feet tied down so that he cannot move or touch her. Not until she allows it.

Every inch of him hungers for her. Every cell cries out for her. He needs her. Right now.

The anticipation is killing him.

Prompt: Darkness
Clint:
The Thrill of the Hunt

There is a darkness in his soul, one he hasn't told anyone about. One he never plans on telling anyone about. He knows who and what he is to the team. He is no superhero. He has no powers. He's simply a man who is very, very good at what he does.

He has perfect aim. He can fire anything. Hit anything. Kill anything. He never fucking misses.

They've made it possible for him to do this, the brains at S.H.I.E.L.D. who build him new bows and high tech arrows to use

They let him kill.

And he likes it.

~*~

Phil:
Undun

He knows this team inside and out, better than he knows his own mind. He sees who they are and what they are. He sees the little things they try to hide from one another, and those things they let go far too easily to protect themselves.

He knows them better than they know themselves.

He's watched them throw themselves into battle, fighting tirelessly against all those who would try and destroy the people of this world. He sees how people react to their presence. Some hail them as the heroes they are. Those people shower them with gifts and words of encouragement. Some claim them to be no better than the villains they fight. They are the ones who call for the end of the Initiative. Those are the ones who seek to destroy all S.H.I.E.L.D. has worked to create.

Fury fights the powers that be to keep them in place, claiming rightly that the Avengers are a deterrent to any who would try to enslave the planet. He fights to keep them from destroying themselves when the verbal attacks come. There are always doubts that linger and eat at them, that corrodes their sense of purpose and self-worth.

Each battle is personal to them. Each loss is long-suffered. Each win is savored as something special and rare. But the doubts that others give voice to are working a slow and insidious poison on them, tearing down their all too human walls. One day, when no one is expecting it, that poison will bear fruit. It will kill everything that they accomplished. The end will come.

He can see the signs there even if no one else can. He can see the danger. One day, they will self-destruct and destroy themselves.

God help the world the day that happens.
