so no doubt you all remember the post i made about a month ago, entitled
wow. this was so... disappointing , in which i talked about how it attempted to do wintery things here and failed miserably. snow that melted before it even hit the ground, really. it was kind of depressing. you all know how i feel about winter and no cold or snow or anything like that. it sucks to have green leaves in February. so yeah. last month's attempt at winter was a real let down.
then, earlier this week, i made this post:
sleeping in is awesome! nothing to show, as i didn't take pictures. but the general idea was that we had about one to two inches of ice on the ground. it took mom over an hour and a half to get home. and we had to dump cat litter and dirt in the driveway before i chopped up the ice with a shovel just so that she could get the truck out of the alley and up the drive. we haven't gone anywhere in four days. spawn's been out of school since Tuesday. its been icy and cold all week long. there were days that we didn't even get past 20F. and some days, it felt like it was below zero with the wind chill factored in.
then last night, as i was closing up shop and getting ready for bed, i glanced outside and noticed that it looked foggy outside. a second glance said that it was snowing. and not the big fat ones that we usually get. these were the small ones that stuck. obviously. so i grabbed the cam and went out to take pics.
when i got up this morning, i took a few more, then even more after 1pm, because it was snowing again, though not as hard as it was just after midnight. i went ahead and loaded them up. sometimes, it really does snow here in Texas.
look at those flakes! i don't know how long it had been snowing, but it had obviously been a while because there's some accumulation happening.
there's some snow on the grill and you can see the street lights through the tree branches. (we live on a corner)
there's ice under all of that white stuff.
this looks out into the back of our back yard.
now i'm out front. the bushes before the house and part of the street.
my foot prints. the shoes i was wearing had about an inch of sole on them. the snow was almost up to the tops of the soles.
look at how much snow is coming down.
the street lights shining off the snow is kind of pretty.
there weren't many cars out last night so i could hear the snow as it fell down. those of you who live in northern states know what i'm talking about. its so quiet that i could hear the snow hitting the tree leaves. it was quite lovely and i wanted to stay up and watch it come down.
this is a little before 8 this morning. that lump is my car.
snow on the fences. and the roof top of our neighbor's house. the sky is that lovely gray that comes with winter weather.
the back yard this morning.
white stuff everywhere.
look at the trees! just coated and drooping.
the front walk. you can almost see the indent of my feet where i'd walked last night.
back to the front yard. that's the lake across the street from us. the cars were moving pretty slowly.
the road that runs in front of the house. and our neighbor's yard. you can see a few tire tracks, but there weren't many cars going anywhere this morning.
you know the big pieces of wood that rail road tracks sit on? those big square things? they run around our yard. bet you can't find them in this picture. yeah. we got that much snow...
another shot of the intersection. and the lake beyond.
one of the live oaks out front. at least, i think that's what kind of tree that is.
back yard again. you can't really tell, but my Georgie boy is back there, enjoying the snow.
look at how much snow is sitting on the table top. and dog dog prints.
peek-a-boo! there's a George between the tree limbs. he was out there, running around and enjoying the snow. he ran and ate some snow and frolicked like a puppy.
there he is! look at that boy.
Fred didn't want to come out with us. so that's why you just get images of George in the snow.
the snow in the tree. there's a lot up there.
more snow covered trees.
there's George again. and if you look in the background, you can see the falling snow. this was after it started snowing again.
and some more falling snow! along with George, too.
okay. that's it. all of the pictures i took. it was lovely to go out and look at it. its supposed to be gone tomorrow, i think. i also think there's more snow supposed to be falling on Monday. dunno. still. this is gorgeous and i'm enjoying it while it lasts.
