Writer's Block: Kids or child-free?

Mar 10, 2010 11:58

Children are a huge responsibility and not one to be taken lightly. Although, I’m not one to shy away from my responsibilities, having (or even raising) a child takes considerable planning and financial resources. Yes, there are a substantial number of people who have and raise children with much less or more then the next person, but that doesn’t mean that’s how *I* would choose to have or raise a child. As a result, I’ve taken care to ensure that I am able to maintain my life without the prospect of not having children. This doesn’t mean that I may never want children just that I don’t want children at the moment in my life, and as such, I have taken on the responsibility to ensure that choice.

However, things can change from one moment to the next as we live and experience the world around us. If my partner and I decided to have a child, we shall discuss the implications for us and for the child. We may determine that we aren’t the best parents / providers for a child. As with many things, it depends on our / my situation.
