I wrote this
looking at the azzuurri team, i wondered where are the players i once cheered for, where is nesta, vieri, pippo and totti?! Half way through the game, i realized just how plain italy looked, even they lost the last world cup and the one before, at least they lost glamorously, they lost like when heroes fell. But today, they are just players. I prayed for the stupid coach to let one of the special ones to go on, the one who will take control over the play and give his teammates hope, like Baggio and Maldini once did.
My prayer was answered when Totti stood next to the field. I knew it, he is gonna be the hero he is, the captain of roma, the one who wont leave its mother city no matter how much money other foreign clubs offers, he is the only player in italy money can not buy. I remember Roma fans kneed in front of his car and thank him in tears for not leaving them. He is a man with few words and is known to be shy and kinda slow. but when he wears that roma jersey, he is a gladiator.
My love for Totti is one thing, and his skills is obvious form the first moment to the last. But the win was not so glamorous. I know people are going to talk again, about how unfair it is. But please dont forget 2002, this is just the natural of the game.
I love azzurri, my hand shakes when i watch them play. But i now realize I do love a team better than todays italy, and that is the italian national team in 1998 and 2002. I hope the boys play better, i hope they play like there is no turning back. But i am afraid they wont, because even if they lose, they can just go back to their clubs where they are still heroes, and most importantly, they can go back to mamma italia, and the virgin mary will forgive. That had been the mentality of italian soccer since the beginning, and that's why the national team is so wake. Sometime i am afraid to watch brazil, afraid to admit to the simply fact that the brazilians play for their country, they play united and they play like there is no tomorrow.
i really rather watch serie A and championship league...

Today, none of my favorite boys from 02 were on the field, no Pippo, Nesta, Bob, Del piero and even totti didn't do much. It really made me wonder if they are still needed as much i hope they are. before that thought goes deeper, GREAT PLAY AZZURRI!
