So, question. If Natasha knew the Winter Soldier, wouldn't she also know what he looks/looked like, so she'd be able to help a little? Or is he one of those masters-of-disguise guys? And how does she know him? (I am not up on Avengers mythology, so perhaps this is general knowledge.)

Okay, so -- what they didn't tell you in the movie was that Natasha is a Russian attempt at making another Steve. She was one of several children taken and trained in The Red Rooms in the USSR to become super soldier/spy/assassins. She operated for years as The Black Widow before Hawkeye changed her life. She's actually right around 50 years old....

Bucky, when he fell to his "death", actually didn't die at all. He was recovered by the Russians... (he'd already been injected by Zola in Captain America with the super serum, remember), and he was brainwashed to be a Soviet operative a handful of times over the next few decades. Mostly, though, he trained the super-spy assassins like Natasha. Natasha and Bucky (canonically) fell in love during this time period. When he wasn't in use, he was frozen asleep.

So... that should catch you up, maybe? Or confuse you more. One of the two.
