Thanks! I wanted the characters to still be recognizably themselves, still the people that we love so much, you know? And I think that some of the stuff that happened in canon makes them those people.
Also, you have somehow managed to redeem one of my least favourite lines on the show, the one about burdens that allow us to fly, which I always found more than a little clumsy (and at times irritating) - on this topic, can I also say how much I love the concluding paragraphs? I got a sense of the story coming back full circle, from Temperance making a choice in the beginning to Booth making one at the very end.
It's not my favorite piece of writing Hart Hanson has ever done, I'll give you that much, but I think it's an interesting concept. What weighs us down, really? What allows us to fly? Can they be the same thing? Interesting. I'm so glad you liked the final paragraphs. I had that line in my head from the very beginning of the piece.
And I think that the greatest tour de force that you do is to work out beautifully who Brennan would be now had she been loved and taken care of a little more when she was so young: there are fewer burdens that she carries in your story than in canon, and I love to see her happy.
Thank you so much! I have a deep love for Brennan, and I really think she just needed someone to stick around, to show her that she was needed, and loved. It was fun to write her happy, and a little more relaxed, but just as strong.
