Taxation without Representation, And I have Reasonably Exciting News!

The problem with BOTH sides of this debate, as displayed today, is that neither side seems to full understand what they're arguing. At least in my mind. The liberal left touts that Obama is giving the majority of Americans an income tax -- which he is. But the states aren't. There are several states that are increasing income tax because they have no way to pay bills. By Kansas stat law, for instance, they can't run at a deficit. They have to pay the bills. And they aren't getting money from the federal government, and they feel they need to stimulate the economy, and so state taxes go up. Income taxes go up, sales tax go up, property taxes go up.

Still -- there is a legitimate argument to be made that the economy should be stimulated -- that the stimulus bill was needed and I understand that. I can see both sides. If you want big government, this is the President for you. If you don't, you're going to spend the next four years angry and frustrated. And that's your right.

What I can't understand, and what really saddens me, is that when folks try to protest the increased taxes around the nation as they have a right to, the media refuses to actually listen to them. Some of the footage today was absolutely horrifying as news anchors stepped all over protesters and didn't allow them to sound like idiots of their own power, which the public is quite good at. It left me wondering. When did we stop embracing dissent?

C'mon, America. Let's raise the level of debate in this country and let that be our legacy. (Leo McGarry, The West Wing).

Reasonably exciting news:
I have a job! Teaching, again. I'm really excited & I start tomorrow. I'm working 7-3 everyday so I'll have to learn how to write before midnight!

Also: I ran into my high school band director, who made me cry in a good way. She thanked me for all the work I did for the program while I was in high school and told me that even now, all the hard work is paying off -- that I, and my classmates, left a legacy that still resounds at that school.

It's nice, sometimes, to be appreciated.

Bonne nuit, my friends! The Silver Dollar Paradigm has a new chapter coming out tomorrow with a Very Exciting Plot Twist. I think you'll all enjoy it!
