Trip to Toronto

Sep 04, 2005 18:08

Oh what a beautiful day, Yesterday was, to stoll around the big city called Toronto. We happily headed out of Kitchener at about noon. To the Shock of paying 1.35 a litre of gas, we opted to not fill up till toronto on our way back. How much worse could it be. (turns out to be better it was only 1.27 in the city)

We drove down the 401 to get to Yorkdale To catch a TTC Subway to the downtown core. The Yorkdale Subway station is above ground, it doesnt go under ground till it gets to Eglington West then under the city you go, until you get off at your designated station, our destination Union Station. Once embarked we went on a hunt for my coffee shop that I use to go to Its located in the big red building that houses the CBC. I find that the coffee shop I like to go to, no longer has its patio.. :( So Looks like I am not going there again.)

So off to find some lunch... We wander up John Street Up to King there is a line of Restaurants That all have patios, and some have roof top patios. We wander up to Spadina, and then back to see what we want to eat we end up going to a Place called "Hey Lucy" Its located At 294 King St. W. near the intersection of King and John. If you are ever in Toronto near the core, this place was excellent.

It is located in a very narrow building, as are most of the buildings along this stretch. You have the choice of sitting downstairs in the restaurant, on the street front patio, or up stairs. At the back of the second story is the roof top patio, we opted for the roof top. I started off with some of their Brushetta bread. It was made on foccacia bread (a fluffy italian style flat bread) with a tomato and feta topping, It was good, I made a mess as usual, Mike laughed at me and my mess. He chose not to try any of my offered brushetta, (he's a meat and potato guy.) I then for the main meal had Chicken Fettichini. It had a beautiful wine cream sauce, artichoke hearts, juicy white chicken meat, Mushrooms, and these little things that had the flavor and shape of olives but were the same size of peas. (I can't remember what they were called) It was delicious. There was so much I couldnt eat the whole thing. Mike had a pizza with pepperoni, bacon, and grilled chicken. He said it was really good the crust was really thin. He ate the whole thing. It must have been good. We had a couple glasses of 7up with it. The total bill was 45 bucks we gave a large tip cause the meal was worth it.

The plan initally was to do the Kensington Market area. But got distracted by the many stores along Queen St. W.

We then wandered up John St. to Queen St. W. Past the Chum/City Building down to The Friendly Stranger to pay homage. Then down to Sirens, we got distracted by a few stores, Tutti Frutti A candy novelty store (pretty cool place but doesnt have a web page that I can show you)There Mike bought us a couple bottles of popshop pop, (does anyone other than me remember popshop? ), I had to go to the bathroom so we stopped at a restaurant so I could, While Mike waited for me outside, to his amusement realized a store he liked was right across the street, called The Silver Snail its a comic book shop, but not a normal comic book shop It has action figures, statues, collectable card games, gift ware, graphic novels, Minatures, models, role-playing books/game supplies, trading cards. Lots of stuff. It was actually pretty cool. Mike bought 4 books (anime) from there. he was happy. we then continued our trek to sirens, to my dissapointmet it was closed.. like I mean there was paper in the windows. That closed. No more sirens. :( So we headed back the other way. To stop at a couple shops I had passed over cause I was on a mission. We Stopped at Borderline,  a place called Clic Klak I bought a pretty cool belt from in there, a red studded belt. Went to Curry's on Queen. An art suppy shop one of my favorites, I bought a new hard cover drawing book, and a couple new drawing pens. We were so amored by each other there were probably other stores I would have liked to have gone in if I had of been paying attention. Instead, we went and had coffee/hot chocolate at The Second Cup to sit and relax abit, before heading over to the CN tower to watch the sunset. Vanilla Latte and White Hot Chocolate drank off we go again. Im full of energy and raring to go.

We we walk down to the CN Tower and wait in line to get tickets, 31.99 (with tax 35.47) total tower experiance. To the top (educational video talking about the tower being built) Lego racer (we didnt go to it cause we didnt want to miss the reason we came here) up the elevator to the Look Out level of the CN tower 346m(1136ft) above the ground. And head right to the windows to watch the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen!! Mother nature puts on quite a show. (I had forgotten my camera at home so there are no pictures, just the image in my head.) After watching the sun go down and the lights in the city brighten, we went and jumped on the glass floor, then headed to the second elevator to the SkyPod, another 101m (129f) above the point we were at. once there we were a total of 447m (1465ft) above the ground, my god it was beautiful at night you could see as far as what I think was Hamilton, Possably Niagara. We were up there for a couple hours and I could have stayed longer if it wasnt getting late and we still had to get back to the car parked up at the north end of the city. So we head down the elevators to the gift shop, I pick up a frosted blue CN Tower shot glass and a colectors coin for dad, We pressed some US pennies, The one I have that mike pressed says I Love You with the words CN Tower Toronto Canada on, it

We left and headed back to Union station to catch the next subway north to Yorkdale, getting to yorkdale, we learn that the mall is closed, and have to walk around, but it was alright.  All around it was a good day.

Hope to go again before the snow falls. (although going in the winter, I bet you get a way different perspective from up in the tower) Who knows, it'll happen none the less.

Have happy rest of the weekend folks, one day left (I have tuesday off as well) Oh to the long weekend.
