First Doctor’s Appointment

On Thursday James had his first doctors’ appointments. The first one was at the hospital. At birth he had failed his hearing test in his left ear. The lady reassured me that it was common and in two weeks to bring him back to get it retested. She said that the reason behind why many babies fail it is because there is still fluid in the ear that isn’t expeled during childbirth. So we had to go to the speech department and have him tested again. The first time she did it on Thursday James didn’t pass. She said that he had to pass three out of the four tones. He only passed the first two. She said it might have been the way she was holding the ear instrument. So she did it once again and he passed. That is great news. I wasn’t too worried about it. But any time something like this happens you can’t help but worry a little.

From there we went to the doctor’s office for his two week check-up. Everything went well. He gained almost a full pound in two weeks. I was amazed. He is now up to 8 lbs 9 oz. I knew he was gaining weight cause his cheeks are getting chubbier. ~laughs~ Other than that I just asked about some chapping he had on the front of his ankles. It looked like it hurt but it didn’t seem to bother him when it was touched. She said it was normal and to put some vaseline on it. I have been doing that and it is much better now.

And as proof that I am losing my mind due to almost no sleep, I forgot the diaper bag that day. I felt like such a bad mother when the doctor asked for a clean diaper after she got done checking him. I told her I forgot the bag and she laughed and said that they had some. She said I had a good excuse. And that after eighteen years I would finally be able to sleep normally again. ~laughs~
