I am at Kate's house, eating apple pie, listening to Grateful Dead, and posting on LJ. While "socializing".
I should be packing. Or doing homework. Or making sure I have a place to go to tomorrow.
Alas.
I also have discovered a book; Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner. (Whom I did not discover because she's Neil Gaiman's favorite author.) It's awesome. A tale of gay court intrigue, murder, swordplay, and gayness. And the cutest couple ever. A hired assassin, Richard, and his snarky ex-scholar love, Alec. They work like this -
Richard: "I killed a guy. Two, I think. And I got a buttload of money for it, so I totally bought you this book on natural philosophy."
Alec: "ZOMG! THIS BOOK HAS BEEN BANNED FOR FIFTEEN YEARS! HARD-FUCKING-CORE!"
Richard: "Yeah, the bookstore owner told me it's all the rage at the University."
Alec: "The...University?"
Richard: "Yeah, the one that kicked you out."
Audience: *does not know why Alec was kicked out*
Alec: *angst*
Yeah. It's pretty much awesome.
