well, i spent all of yesterday and the night before snowed in. i think we have about a foot of snow. fortunately, my apartment is within walking distance of several restaurants and corner grocery stores. unfortunately, it's only ten degrees outside.
hah. my icon is perfect for today!
my new upstairs neighbor is the nicest man ever. he offered to tow and/or push my car out yesterday but i didn't have anywhere urgent to go so i told him not to bother. he told me to throw a snowball at his window if i changed my mind. at 9am this morning a young guy knocked on my door looking for him, cause he told him he'd help him get out today if he was stuck. i redirected him to the correct apartment. this morning when i had to get out, he looked out his window and saw me digging with a borrowed shovel (cause i don't have one) and came outside. he then proceeded to dig out my front tires and got another guy and my visiting friend to push me out.
yay! i'm free! and terrified of having to drive down and park again on my own street. i did get stuck once more on a back street but a nice man got out of his truck and pushed me 'til i had enough momentum to get up a hill. i love winter and snow but this city has no idea on how to go about proper snow removal. and i am spoiled from living in michigan.
nicole, one of my friends visiting from the west coast, had her parents drop her off at my place last night and we had a slumber party. we went out to dinner (walked in the cold), then played scrabble and exchanged gifts. i hadn't seen her in two years and it was just like old times.
my sister was supposed to drive in from chicago on thursday but the roads were bad so she's flying in tonight. of course it has to snow like this at the least convenient possible time for everyone. not sure how to visit with everyone unless they can meet somewhere on a main road. the side streets are treacherous because the city only plows main roads and private subdivisions. ack. this sucks!
anyhow. enough whining. Merry Christmas to all of my non-jewish friends! i'm off on a mission to find a shovel.
oh. and i finally have internet access again at my apartment. but no cable... i'm trying to resist.
