O Tannenbaum

I think I mentioned earlier in the month that I don't put up decorations in my apartment. Since I'll be spending 1/3 of the month at home in Kentucky, it seems like something of a pointless activity that is just going to cause me more work. But one of the favorite things in our family is watching the under portion of the tree (and sometimes the branches) slowly filling up with presents. I think my mom and I could wait until New Year to open stuff, just to keep looking at the pretty packages glowing under the tree. I'm not sure if it is the image, the anticipation, or a combination of the two, but it really is a nice sight.

So I'm zooming down the road somewhere south of my apartment complex while out taking care of some shopping matters, and I pass a little white sedan with a "live" Christmas tree (probably from the Boy Scout tree sale downtown) strapped to the top of the trunk, similarly zooming north on the same road. I don't know why, but the image makes me start giggling. It just made me so happy to see the tree clinging to the car for dear life; it almost looked like it could be saying "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" in joy of being loved enough to go home with someone, and get a wild and fast ride on the way.

This almost has me rethinking my decision to continue not having a tree.

Almost immediately after that, I go past a house covered in greenery and big red bows. I'm wondering if it is also extremely well lit now that it is dark. The house, much like the tree, made me warm and fuzzy inside. The decorations are classic, not gaudy, and actually made the house stand out like it never had before. They could have fit in well during a much different time period. I'm a fan. I almost wanted to stop and knock on the door to tell them how much I appreciated their decorations. I did not. I do not need to be weird Christmas lady any more than I already am.
