yes, you read that right. bird in our house.
this morning at 6:45, hanna comes into our room and says, "daddy, there's a bird in my room."
what in the world? i was half asleep, so i thought, "maybe she's dreaming." nope, it was real.
this isn't possible. we weren't home yesterday, so there were no doors or windows open that a bird could have flown in. we don't have a cat that would have hunted and brought it in, so that was out, and our dogs don't come in the house, so they didn't do it. where could it have come from?
so, i get myself out of bed and walk into hanna's room. the door is shut, hanna is sitting on the bed, and daddy is chasing this little sparrow around the room. the poor bird. it is trying to get away, and keeps running into the window, and her mirrored closet doors (where it can see the outside). i told daddy to get a blanket and throw that over it to stop it. it flew into the closet, where daddy was finally able to do this. he caught it in the blanket, and carried it outside to the front yard. as soon as he opened the blanket, it flew away. poor birdy!
so, today, as i'm looking around, i realize that this bird might have been in our house for quite some time. i found birdy poop on my computer desk, on my bedroom dresser, and on hanna's bedroom dresser. the best we can figure is that at some point, it somehow got into the chimney, and made it's way out the fireplace, into our home. i felt so bad for it. i wonder how long it had been in the house.
**edit** 3:36 pm i have now also found birdy-poop on the headboard in our room, and a feather on my side table. after some deduction, we realized this bird came in at some point yesterday, not this morning, as hanna's bedroom door was shut all night, so it was locked in there since 9 pm last night. hmmm......
chimney,
