I started this post a little while ago, but just looking at it was making me gag so it took a little time to assemble. So, in celebration of my nearing the end of the first trimester (14 weeks starts Wednesday!), I'm posting the lists of things that I've slowly been able to feel human around once more (except for tofu - tofu has officially become the grossest thing my stomach has ever heard of ever).
My pregnancy symptoms:
-morning/noon/night sickness (night has become the worse since it delays my sleep which makes me feel sicker)
-excess saliva (which makes the nausea worse)
-headaches behind my eyes (though, this might be a symptom of the Lovenox)
-sore throats (apparently drip is common, so most mornings I wake up with a sore throat)
-super-human sense of smell (which is kind of cool, but no good when most food makes me feel green)
-gas (and weird gas - like, my guts are shifting around and giving me random gas)
-random gagging/hiccups/burps (it's as gross as it sounds and I apologize to anyone who has been around me when it happens)
-distended belly (makes sense)
-incredible food aversions to: tofu (gag), onions, garlic, pepper, herbs, white cheddar cheese (orange is fine), alcohol (good, right?), anything that doesn't taste like a potato or fresh fruit
-weight loss in the first trimester (really common and makes sense with all the food aversion - I think it came to 10lbs total lost)
-exhaustion like I've never felt (I could sleep all the time and still not feel rested)
-abdominal cramping if I move too fast while using stomach muscles (for example, when standing or sitting quickly)
-back pain (but I think this is more from being inactive and sitting so much at work)
-extra body heat (I swear I always feel like I'm on fire)
-random lightheaded spells (I have to be near stable things when I stand-up because I'm always moments away from blackout)
-extreme sensitivity to sun (direct sun or stifling heat makes me vomit)
Things that don't make me sick to eat:
-starchy, heavy carbs (breads, peirogis, potatoes)
-fish sticks (smothered in ketchup, as long as I don't smell them too much before trying to eat them)
-cheeses (hard, orange cheese preferably, white cheese are okay if provolone on my sandwich or when heated like on pizza or in calzone; cream cheese sometimes)
-fruit (any fresh fruit any time)
-sour things (pickles, salt and vinegar chips, citrus-y things)
-anything with heavy sodium content (olives, cheese popcorn, triscuits, doritos)
-mustard (especially spicy)
-watermelon (I know I already said fruit, but this one I actually almost always like to eat)
-carrots
Smells I would rather not smell:
-charcoal grilling (I know, it's sad)
-onions, garlic, etc
-cigarette smoke (I probably will barf on you if you smoke around me - I'm sorry)
-the usual gross smells that come from regular bodily functions
-my fridge/freezer
