Whoever thought that while getting myself in the mood for Phantom of the Opera, I would distract myself? I was supposed to finish most of chapter 27 last night, and instead I rewatched the Englund version with
glancesherlock lol Most of it, anyway.
BTW, I was sort of wrong about him not having a mask. He doesn't always appear to have one (considering the skin mask), but lots of times the cosmetic job he does to hide the stitches and everything rubs off or something, so out and about, he has one hell of a get-up! -->

Is it just me or is the altercation at the beginning reminiscent of V for Vendetta? And he uses what appears to be a fishing hook as a weapon?! Where does he keep this thing?! Oh yeah, he's the Phantom. Phantoms practically have black holes in their pockets, and no sense of space, despite being perfectly human. Although Robert-Phantom does have some supernatural powers apparently, but they're not flashed out there, and I appreciate that.
Also, I realized this mainly the second time watching it - how he positively glows when Christine's onstage. Here's this serial killer, scrunching his shoulders in delight and staring at her, mouth agape.
Clenching his fists like it's going to help her hit the high notes better. XD
Loved the way she asked him to play his music and he got all "no, not that".
And his best quote in the whole movie is probably this:
Christine: ...Are you going to kill me now?
Phantom: *thinks* ... Everyone dies. ... I just choose the time and place for a few. *shrug*
♥
What I kind of enjoy about any phantom's character is that he is bipolar - he can be so dangerous, but one person can reach his core. They are immune to danger. (For a while anyway.) But then, the other fascinating part of any Phantom tale is that the man so put together and with such gravitation unravels when he thinks he is losing that control, and she realizes too late that a person you should not trust can still charm you, and you can still grow attached to them because you don't realize all the terrible things they're doing behind your back. (I always wished at least one of the movies would focus more on the kidnapping part.) Mystery is a beautiful thing - some people need it like a drug. But it has its harmful side-affects, similarly to a drug.
I should leave that as an inspiring note for finishing chapter 27. After all, it is a main theme of my story. It's taught me a lesson about wanting a phantom, really.
