We are going to have to talk about this

Okay.  Okay, I need someone who has seen both Star Trek and Dollhouse, because we need to discuss handlers and bonding and the possibilities thereof.

STAT, PEOPLE.  STAT.

pure frivolity, fic ideas, audience participation, writing, star trek, random fangirling, dollhouse

YES!!!! I volunteer!! I literally just finished watching Dollhouse!! I can totally see Kirk and Spock grouping, Scotty as the crazy tech guy, Mccoy as the doll/doctor, Pike as a handler, maybe Sarek as a handler as well. And the one in charge of the house...maybe Archer, or Komack? You are my new favorite person ever

I soo second the above casting. I'd be tempted to make Spock a handler, buuuut he has way more than enough personal angst to be thrown right into dollhood.

Auugh! And then he would know nothing of Sarek being his father! The potential! It burns me.

Oh that is brilliant. Spock does angst so well, and I can see interesting things being done with Vulcan blankness versus the generic happy blankness of the dolls.
In some ways Kirk is much hard to imagine as a doll, because they try to make the dolls sexless and Kirk's sexuality is a huge part of his character for me.

Actually, what got me thinking about it was someone referring to Echo being "bonded" to her handler, and because my mind is a crazy merry-go-round of slash, my train of thought immediately went:

Bonding --> Jim and Spock bonding --> Jim as a doll and being bonded to his handler, Spock, only ZOMG IT GOES EVEN DEEPER THAN ANYONE HAD ANTICIPATED AND THEY END UP FULL-ON VULCAN BONDED

I don't even know what to do with this idea. XD But Jim would make such a good doll, and maybe, I don't know, Starfleet has him imprinted because of his pedigree (much like the whole thing with Senator Perrin)? Or, OR, if you really wanted to play fast and loose with canon, Jim Kirk died years ago--maybe on Tarsus?--and so they imprinted this guy to pretend to be him. In any case, they assign Spock to be his handler and it's so weird, because they don't even really get along but Jim trusts him.

With his life.

Ah no! Don't actually kill Kirk! (or do because that could totally be awesome.)

Like, what if, after Tarsus some shifty Star Fleet Psych big wig decided that memory repression would 'be for his own good' and had 'just the experimental program for him'???

Then no one actually has to die! (even though cannon would be just as screwed and he would essentially cease to be himself anyway, but hey who's paying attention to that?)

What made me think of both Kirk and Spock as Dolls was, while a Doll is "bonded" to their handler, that bond can be erased. What happens with some Dolls, however, is an inexplicable need to be with each other, called grouping (Sierra and Victor). These Dolls are practically soulmates, and can't help being drawn to each other.

(Sorry for the late response, life kinda got in the way.)

True enough. Except that we do see evidence, with Echo and Boyd (BOYYYYYYD T_T) that sometimes the bond isn't erased. There's something stronger there that overcomes the wipe, just like it does with Victor and Sierra. Also, there's no way I wasn't going to play with the dual meanings of "bonded". XD

(I, um. May have written a little something on this subject the other night. O.O)
