Oh God, poor Jim. You already knew that I loved the bits I'd read, but as a whole story this blew me away. I loved the way Spock wanted to ease Jim's pain but wasn't quite sure how to manage it without hurting him worse--all Vulcan mannerisms aside, that's actually quite true to life for most people, I think. It's only in fiction that people immediately and automatically know the best ways to heal each other. In reality, just hanging on in the face of a hurt you can't fix is sometimes the only possible help you can give.

I expect you to cheer me up with Spirkian snuggling and porn now.

I've read a lot of Tarsus IV fics. Ones where Jim is raped, where he has to kill, where he watched his family die. This one affected me more then any of those. I can't say why, but something about how Jim talks and how Spock is there really got to me. This was incredibly moving.

I absolutely LOVE the idea of Kirk giving Spock command due to being emotionally compromised, and of course Spock being so sweet and protective always gets to me!
