Yesterday was my 27th birthday. It was a nice relaxing day - not too eventuful. I took the day off as a start to a week of vacation, and it felt fabulous not being at work. A much needed vacation before my brain melts out of my ears.
I had a review recently where my manager said I've become the "workhorse" of my position, so I guess you could say I work pretty hard. By the time I left Thursday evening, my backlog was significantly depleted, so hopefully my co-workers won't have too much to worry about while I'm taking a mental health holiday!
Thursday I was greeted by a cube covered in candy! Once again my coworkers converted my working space to Candyland, a sweet kingdom that Willy Wonka would be proud of. My friend Michelle took pictures, so hopefully she'll send them soon so I can share the madness. They said they used about 16 bags of candy, and they taped individual pieces everywhere in my cubical - on the monitors, keyboard, phone, computer, walls...in chains of tape - everywhere. Soooo much candy. I made a sign before I left for vacation saying "Please help yourself to some candy!!" because there's no way I can eat that all without becoming diabetic and getting scolded by my dentist.
Yesterday I got to sleep in a bit, but woke up and hung out with my dad for the majority of the day. He needed to be supervised because the day before he had gone in for knee surgery. The week prior, while working on the driveway, he had messed up his knee and was unable to walk for a week. It turns out his meniscus shifted and became stuck between the knee bones. Ouch. Now he's finally able to walk around, but he's still hobbling and saying he doesn't need the vicodin, but I know he still needs it b/c it hurts after a few hours of him moving around. :(
Birthday was pretty relaxing - I made my own birthday cake (funfetti!!) and we tested out this frosting direction on the back of the cake mix by mixing Kool-Aid with white frosting. So I had Cherry Kool-Aid frosting on my funfetti cake. It's yummy, but also kinda weird. Went out for Thai food with Shane and hit up the Half Price bookstore, a perfect birthday date. <3
Sunday I'm going to zoo!! Yay, animals!
