Cantigny: The Seven Year Anniversary is the Tank Anniversary

Jul 19, 2010 20:45

This past weekend Shane and I celebrated our seven year anniversary. <3

We debated whether it was the 7th or 8th, and Shane told me to check my LJ, haha. We started dating in July 2003. As I checked, I started reading my journal and how different things were even seven years ago. And it's not that I've changed terribly, I just was more open online. I shared a lot more, and it was fascinating to read what was going on and what was troubling me then. Perspective.

Maybe the little things were more exciting for me back then. Nowadays it's all work, and some play.

Friday Shane and I went to Cantigny. We were planning to go other places, but since it was supposed to be around 93 with a heat index of like 140, we sought some place was air conditioning or something to do inside. We decided to go to Cantigny because it was close and because we had just been talking about the Harvey mansion in A Leauge of Their Own, which was actually the McCormick mansion at Cantigny.

We left early and got there just as it was opening for tours. Shane and I walked around the gardens, and I took lots of pictures of flowers. I...am snap happy with my camera. I love digital, haha.

You can see the pictures here if you're on the Facebook.

By 10 or so, I started melting. Apparently wearing makeup when it's hot out makes me sweat in the face 10X more than normal. Ug...ly.

But we were able to escape the heat into the super frosty AC of the mansion tour. It was so cold I welcomed the heat after leaving - and if I was cold, then you know it was freezing! O_O Then we walked around a bit more and climbed on the tanks! Which is the best part of Cantigny anyway.

Shane and I grabbed lunch at a little restaurant in Naperville called Tangerine, which is where the Corner Bakery was when I went to NCC. We stopped at the Barnes and Noble and I was finally able to find a copy of The Last Hunt by Bruce Coville, the last book in the Unicorn Chronicles. I've started reading it, and I can't put it down. But I also don't want to plow through it; I want to savor the words, immerse myself in the last pages of the story of Luster. I've been following this story since the sixth grade, and it almost feels like it's grown with me. Bruce's story has been such an inspiration to me and my love of fantasy and even writing, I just want to hold on the story as long as I can.

But I can always re-read them. :) I've been thinking about re-buying the first two books in the hardcover to match the two later books. Shane laughed at me when I said this, but I have a thing for matching volumes. I want my bookshelf to look nice (currently it looks crowded, but that's another story!), and my original copy of Into the Land of the Unicorns has seen much love. I'm by no means going to get rid of it, but...the new volumes have brown ink!!

Omg, I'm a nerd.

Anywho, so Shane and I ended up seeing Predators (Adrian Brody's nose on the big screen! With predators!!) and then hanging out at his place for the night. We traded in our fancy dinner idea for a pizza, but it was a super date overall. <3

I had to get up early and work the next day, which was not super. I think work is making me brain dead. This needs to be remedied with more books and possibly booze and a vacation. Yup.
