First, a retraction

Prof. Blogger has set me straight on the rumor about the CrimPrac final (see previous post). I would have found this less of a disconcerting rumor than the one that popped up about Prof. Evidence last week, although, like this one, that rumor has been corrected as well. The CrimPrac final is not the chaos, panic and disorder that I was lead to believe it was, and someone else can have Evidence when they pry it from his cold, dead hands.

Although seriously, everyone who wasn't in Secured last week has no idea the level of hysteria that was evident when this came bubbling up. I was somewhat taken aback by this, as I had been insulated in the PC bubble and had had no idea that something was up. Students bitched and moaned about the violence inherent in the system - help, help, we're being repressed! I'm still not entirely sure what the level of bitterness was about - except for the people in Appellate Procedure the day before PC, that still sucks. I had already talked to some people in CrimPrac yesterday, before I went to see Prof Blogger about something unrelated, and had been straightened out. I was going to post the correction later anyway, which is probably why I didn't think to ask him about it when I was in his office. If I'm going to be a responsible gossip monger, I'm going to make sure to correct or confirm rumors as I get the information. Interestingly enough, after all the hysteria I heard that sounded like people were going to have to write the exam while in an iron maiden, the person I actually asked about the schedule seemed pretty calm.

So, here it is, officially: CrimPrac final can be taken on one of three days, including one after PC (although the day before Secured, I think, which might have contributed to the grumbling I heard). Probably it's just pre-finals freakouts, with stress that needed an outlet and found one. Because it wouldn't be a finals season without some kind of meltdown.

And, on a side note - quillblade, it's entirely your fault that I always spell 'rumor' 'rumer' the first time, and have to go back and fix it. Hope you're happy!

In the continuing search for a trial to observe, we thought that we were saved when we found out that there was a trial in the 170th, but alas and alack, apparently it's scheduled to go 7-8 trial days, which means that closing will not be before Saturday, which, um, would be rly rly not so good. So last night I went snoopign around the Dallas and Travis county websites, and apparently there are some jury trials on the docket for this week. We can't go today, because my observation buddy has class until 2:05 and I have to be at work at 5, so we would have time to drive to Austin, wave at the courthouse, then turn around and drive back. So our plan is to go tomorrow, since I'm not working and the only class we should have, if that, is Secured. But we don't want to push it much further than that, because it would be nice to STUDY for the finals, too.

Just a thought.
