Westmark-"It's a Bit Sketchy"
I swear, the fic is better than the title, even if it's short.
For ladyknight30, a fluffy piece of Mickle/Theo (set after The Beggar Queen).
It's a Bit Sketchy
Mickle had been sitting on the ship’s deck all day, watching the sea and the sky. Theo was not so easily contented, so he had finally pulled out his sketchbook and pencil and had begun to draw. He had started with the ship, then moved to the landscape, and now had taken to drawing her.
He was very intent on his work. He was trying to capture not only her image, but her self. There was so much about her to try and put into his drawing that it had consumed him completely. He had finally finished the rough sketch of her profile and was beginning to add the detail, starting with her lips.
“That’s not right.”
He smudged out the marks with his rubber piece and did them again.
“Still not right.”
He redid them a third time. They weren’t exactly right, but they were as close as he could really get. He moved upward a bit to the nose.
“More aquiline.”
He marked out a place and tried again.
“Too humped.”
Again.
“Not that flat.”
Several tried finally got it near perfect. Her eye came next, to go in order, but first he did a quick sketch of her hairline.
“Don’t forget to account for stray curls.”
He sketched in a few of those as well, then moved on to her eyes. They were so complex, to deep and profound. She carried many years, and many emotions in her eyes, it seemed impossible to convey them right. He wasn’t sure if he could really do them justice. Perhaps he should wait-
“Oh, would you just draw them already?”
Theo suddenly sat up from his hunched position over the page. He hadn’t spoke. In fact, he realized, he hadn’t spoken a single word since he had begun his drawing. He stared at the half finished sketch. It wasn’t possible…was it?
Mickle, still sitting by the railing, stifled her laugh hard as Theo stared confusedly at his drawing.
“Hurry up, will you? I can’t see a thing!”
Her lips never moved.
