next on my list:

-a good corn chowder. (sean and i have hunted and pecked to compile a hybrid recipe)

-my "habanero hellfire chili" with tempeh instead of Morningstar crumbles. i'm just curious to see what the texture and consistency will turn out like by using tempeh.

...Abiku last night was amazing. Jane gave me her number to kick it today when i get off work but i don't think i'll be able to meet them before they have to go over to oakland. we mused going to the oakland show as well, but kevin says it's in a not-so-good neighborhood and that we DON'T wanna walk that way off BART. eh. but... not only did i give 'em about $5, i also bought three CDs and two of their 7" (one for sean) and the chick who was doing merch for them gave me some buttons for free. sara also bought a 7", so that was nice. despite having an AWFUL day yesterday (forgot everything at home, my house is flooded (yes), and so many other things i don't want to get into that made my day A FUCKING MISSION FROM HELL), sara, jason, sean and i made the most of the night and had a blast. sean was right about the venue. it was very... interesting. it was this large (HUGE) warehouse where a bunch of grimy art/music kids live and open up the common area for shows -- there were people eating in the kitchen, and the most stupendous brick-a-brack plastered all over the walls. random tv monitors here and there flashing bizarre imagery, etc. the floor was thick with dust and i saw some of the strangest/stupidest/foulest/most interesting fashion i've ever seen. it totally reminded me of that tallahassee "it's cool to be poor and gross and tacky and unhygienic" chic. OMG, YOU HAVEN'T WASHED THAT NEST ON YOUR HEAD IN TWO WEEKS AND THAT SILKEN TIGER ROBE IS HELLA FIERCE. nope! the opening band was dopey francisco's sad, sweaty, obese racoon-eyed cousin. what shit. i'm not saying by any means that dopey francisco is shit -- they're NOT. at all. the association is just because it was songless noise... but where dopey francisco do it classy, these guys... ugh. i told sean "it's like trying to make a curry and coming out with a greasy soup you can't even eat. it was horrid. ABIKU, however... ruled. we missed the first band because... well because i had to go on a god damn MISSION after work and when i finally came back here to meet sean, i checked my email and josh from abiku told me it was an EARLY SHOW. so we had to haul all the laundry and shit to sean's in a rush, hurry sara and jason over, and hop in the cab straight-away. the first band sounded like it was going to be promising, so sean and i are both sad we missed them. the second was that shit-soup i briefly described above... then abiku came on and ruled. these morons started throwing around dusty ass stuffed animals and hats, though. i wanted to hurt some of these people, but i did my best at ignoring the fluffy projectiles and concentrating on their awesome stage presence. what i thought was jane's keytar is actually a fuckin' moog, as sean pointed out as soon as she whipped it out. they ruled. what a great night.

we wandered through the shady streets of bayview after that, and finally ended up cabbin' back home, passing by sara and jason's first because they had borrowed sean's hand mixer... and then home where we all had pizza and i made puppy's cake. i was up late stressing over that cake. i hope it turned out decent.

things at the DMV this morning went surprisingly smooth. CA knows how to run a DMV that offers SERVICE. FL can take a lesson or two. all i have to do is get my driving record and license info that specifies date of issue, expiration, and physical description from the FL DMV and i can waive my driving test. i took the written test this morning and passed and got my restricted permit, picture taken, etc. i called my mom this morning to put me in touch with bob lesprance (my lawyer) and he is going to see about getting my license cleared (i have my D6 but never filed it because i was no longer living in FL) and a copy of my record for me. WOOT! hopefully all goes smoothly. if worse comes to worse, jason offered to get a zip car and make himself available on the day i make an appt for the driving test. super rad of him.

more when i get a chance...
