Am I one of the few people not watching the Oscars right now? I have to confess to having no interest in them, probably because I've seen none of the Best Picture nominees and few of the others. I do want to see Million Dollar Baby, Ray, and Hotel Rwanda but just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's actually amazing that I've seen only one movie in the theater the whole time I've been home/taking time off, and it was the Incredibles - my dad wanted to go to a movie, and we have very different tastes so that was the only thing we could agree on. I actually am not that much of a movie person in general - I much prefer TV.
I did have a nice visit with Srikala on Thursday, even though I did get caught in the snow. It was actually pretty cool to see the Gates in the snow. Srikala and Michelle both weren't that impressed with them, but I was glad to have a chance to see them. And they were giving away swatches of the material used to make the Gates so I got one of those - my own little piece of the Gates for posterity. A few years ago, I started pasting things like that into my journal, and they are such a good reminder of the things that I've done. I actually make these lists every year of things to remember about that year (in case you're wondering, this tradition started at the end of 1999, when one of my magazines listed some ways to celebrate 2000, including making a list of all the good things that happened to you in the 1990's - so I started making the list, which was quite extensive since I turned 13 in 1990 and graduated college in 1999, but what I realized was that so many of the things that had happened that were painful or awful at the time had ended up being such incredible learning experiences that I was grateful for even those "bad" experiences, and the list became a way to recount meaningful things that had happened, good or bad, which is the tradition I continue to this day), and having all those tangible reminders of things that I've done in that year really helps with the list.
We're supposed to have snow again tomorrow so we'll see how much it interferes with my day - Monday is my fullest day of the week so it will cause more havoc than it would with most of my days. One of the things that I really miss about NH is that there was less hysteria about the weather, or at least that's how I remember it. It's winter - thus, it's cold and it snows, and it's amazing how much of a big deal people make of it when totally normal weather occurs. (Of course, that being said, I go through times of being addicted to the Weather Channel, especially when there's a big storm coming.)
