Rewatches!!
There are several I'm doing at the moment. One being the Firefly rewatch for my Whedonland stuff. I can't complain really. I've done this a couple of times on my own in one day or so or over a weekend. It's always worth it. I don't think any one episode is so well known to me or so over seen that I couldn't watch it again. That's the magic of Whedon's stuff. As I've been doing challenges and what not I've realized that there is a bunch of episodes in Buffy I missed and even though I watched all of Angel, there is apparently a ton of things I either watched while I was half asleep or accidentally skipped over - which means I'm going back to watch those series again eventually.
Also rewatching Enterprise right now. A friend gave me the four seasons to watch mostly because I was shocked that I hadn't seen the last two seasons, and knew what happened. Heh. Mostly because they didn't carry it very well around here and it was usually on at like 2 am in the morning, which would have been great if I was working nights, but I wasn't back when it was on, and I didn't exactly have means to record it either. So - rewatch! I'm looking forward to getting to episodes I haven't seen yet. Then after that, probably going to dig into DS9 because I've missed a ton of that too apparently.
I'm such a horrible fan. LOL
Books!!
Currently reading two books. First one is an Elizabeth Bear series of books called The Promethian Age. Or well that's what her series is called anyway. I'm on the second book called 'Whiskey and Water'. The first book is called 'Blood and Iron' which I think had a very interesting story though there were some points in the book where things were kind of confusing, as if the writer skipped over something, or it's just assumed you know the plot points at some point when there had been no lead up or development of the characters to let you know that this was where the plot was going. Funny enough, some of the plot holes from the first book are filled out in the second one, and it's written well enough to keep me reading. There are four books in the series and if you are looking for something in the fantasy realm that has a modern bend to it, then I would give it a read. So far I give the series 3 Bookmarks out of 5.
One of my absolute favorite writers is Octavia E. Butler. I discovered her only just last year and was emerced in her Lilith series pretty quickly. Very intellegently written stuff in the social to hard cord sci-fi genre, she writes with beautiful imagery and blunt words. She doesn't pretty things up with adjectives, but she makes a scene come alive. At the moment I very much envy her writing style. I'm currently reading the book called 'Kindred'. It's a brilliant example of social sci-fi with a story that comments on the racial achievements and pitfalls of the last few hundred years. It doesn't shy away from the realities the characters face, or the language. If you like The Color Purple for whatever reason, then Butler's books will interest you. 'Kindred' gets 4 out of 5 Bookmarks!
Movies!!
Just finished watching Blood and Chocolate and I have to say, I was pretty impressed. I even liked how they managed the special effects and how it gave the story, and the myth that went with it, even more credit. This is a nice twist on the werewolf tale. The movie doesn't explain that at first, but you know something is different from the start. It is key to the story as to why they take so long getting to the fact that several of the characters are supernatural in some fashion. Vivian is a wonderful main character and I liked her instantly. This was well written and I think - or hope might find some cult status for those of us that like supernatural type movies. I certainly plan on getting it for my DVD collection at some point. This movie gets 4 out of 5 junior mints! (Would have put popcorn here - but really, I can't eat it. - long story - and I love chocolate mint so there ya go!)
I have several projects going on right now, not the least of which is finishing a gift for my Whedonland stuff. I think I came up with an idea that I thought was going to be fairly easy to put together in a few days, and look neat, and now it's become a serious project that will probably last into the weekend. I started on Monday putting pics together for it and I'm still working on getting the right ones together. Part of me wishes I had started sooner but I didn't have a good idea what to do for it and it wasn't until last week that I finally got inspired from the list of choices I had. In any case, it's coming along and I'm hoping to have it done today. *NEEDS to be done today before I lose anymore points for my team.. *sighs*
I also have a synopsis that I'm working on for my friends book that I've been helping to edit. I was talking to her the other night about it, and I've got a couple of idea floating around in the noggin but I haven't put anything down yet. I need to, just to get the process started for real instead of trying to find the exact right start - though sometimes I can't write until I do have that or my version of it. But anyway, we were talking about it and publishing, and she mentioned that if it wasn't for me she probably never would have taken what she had and become serious about putting it into a book. She actually dedicated the book to me. I damn near cried. I didn't expect that. I didn't ask for it. I would have been happy with a note that said I edited stuff or helped put the book together. Her uncle just passed away recently. He was like a father to her they were very close and yet she chose to still dedicate the book to me instead of him - thats how serious she is about it; about how much I helped her. After she mentioned that I told her she should make two dedications, there aren't any rules to say otherwise, and then her uncle gets the proper acknowledgement for being part of her life. I know suggesting it made me feel better at least. I admit that I've done some work but to have it dedicated to me was kind of a shock and an honor all at the same time. *smiles*
Few other things on the books for this weekend - Spending time with my nephew, laundry, dishes, shopping, dinner and a movie with my BF and maybe hanging out with my other BF, going to see Gil, making Blueberry muffins ( - because blueberries were on sale this week and I bought two pints just for that purpose and Gil likes muffins so I thought I would make some up and take them when I visit. Besides the fact that I love blueberries.. LOVE them!!), what else...I'm on call this weekend so I have to manage that as well.. oh and sleep.. heh *grins*
