Hey All,
I am making a Doublet and Kirtle in Linen, I wanted to use French Seams, and so I added 1/2 inch seams, I used 1/4 th and then turned the fabric and sewed it again. Now? My doublet is 2 inches too small. I don't know what I did wrong, I made a Toile but I did not make a mock up. So while my doublet is awesome and lovely it is too small the Toile fit with the front crossing over by 2 inches for the buttons I wanted to use on it. However, since I am still working on losing weight this might be something I can wear next year.
I am making another one from a beginner gown I made for a friend's 10th wedding anniversary. It was destroyed by the Purple over gown, something I warn many times about this. I washed the deep purple and even threw in vinegar to help set the whole thing. It did not and I wore this for 1 time because the bled went all over the front of my gown and on the shoulders. So I cut the doublet and sleeves from the gown, so I can if this works, actually use this awesome fabric again. It is cotton, but that is okay I have some purple Linen and if this works I shall try this again with that purple linen. Plus Fabric-Store has some deep purple for me to make another doublet for me this year. I am addicted to purple so it is not a bad thing to have another piece. So adding 3/4th of an inch all around Doublet 2.0, again I am working with the French seams and so far? It is going okay it seems to be working.
Surgery? I am a Diabetic, I have been for at least 12 years, and my sugars are fluctuating horribly due to my not doing a lot of exercise with the pain and difficulty on the shoulder, did you all know doing basic left lifts will cause you to push down on your shoulders? Yeah I know now, good thing I have loads of ice. The heat is killing me as well. 100 degree days are never my thing so getting outside is not happening.
