Hey, I'm rereading OP in Japanese and I just came across the explanation for the log pose. Miss Wednesday (Vivi) and Mr. 9 had dropped their log pose and Luffy picked it up. Just by coincidence though (or Fate??) Sanji broke it and Crocus decided to give them his. Here's where my theory comes in: Maybe this very log pose was Gold Roger's log pose and ends up pointing the crew along the same path Roger followed -- and we know it did! There are supposed to be seven paths through Grand Line to choose from at the beginning. It may not just be coincidence that the Luffy Crew chose Gold Roger's, since Crocus was his ship's doctor on their last voyage.
...In fact, he's very misleading about the whole thing, if you think of it that way. He explains about log poses and about the very last island on the Grand Line, "Raftel," where most people assume that Gold Roger hid the One Piece. Perhaps he has, in fact, been there, and is being all mysterious about it like Silvers Raleigh.
