Slumdog Millionaire

So I finally watched Slumdog!

You know I honestly don't think I would have watched this movie if not for all the attention it has been recieving, but I'm glad I did. I can definatly see why this won so many awards [Emmy and Screen Actors Guild] and has been nominated for 10 Oscars.

The acting his some of the best I've ever seen although Dev Patel had this sort of blank look throught most of the film, which was a wee bit awkward. But I think the best acting of all was the kids who played the characters when they were younger-who are actually form the slums near the Bandra railway station-I think they deserve an award as well.

The music too was absoultely amazing, it compeletly blew me away.

However there were a few things that peeved me a little bit, like the fact that the show was called Who wants to be a Millionaire? I know that this was the English version of the movie, but honestly the show in India is called Kaun banega Crorepati? this and the fact that the currency system of 'million' was used instead of 'Lakh' and 'Crore'  had me a bit confused. Which leads me to believe that this film was not made for Indian audiances. This and the fact that the only parts of Mumbai that was shown was the city's dark underbelly. And Jamal and Salim kind of learned English rather quickly and I don't know how? One moment they were selling stuff on a train the next their within the Taj Mahal's complex and speaking perfect english with an accent too, no less.

All in all, its a film set to become one of the epics.

But I think the best part for me was that no one broke into song/started dancing randomly. The only 'bollywood song and dance number' was part of the credits.

However I for the life of me cannot understand what people's problem with this movie is? And I am a mumbaikar and I was not in the least bit offended by it.
Some people have taken offence with the fact that the only parts of the city that were show, were the slums, and all that, but I don't think showing the richer side of the city would be relevant to the plot in anyway.  Secondly this is not the first time a movie has been made which showed such things as this one has. Has eveyone forgotten about Traffic Signal which was basically about the begging mafia, and corruption. And what about Black Friday ?
And of course the slum dewellers are saying that the name of the movie is offensive to them. Well first off, its artistic expression, because I don't think 'Story about a boy form the slums' is as catchy as 'Slumdog Millionaire'  as would calling it 'Slumperson Millionaire'
Secondly, we know its offensive, but that is the essense of the story that the boy who was nothing but a wortless dog became a millionaire, the title is ment to convey that. And you know what I can think of a whole lot of other words that could have been used and that 'Slumdog' is effectivly not so bad.
