Once upon a time...

...there was a girl who had a LiveJournal. Her name was Jennifer, but she hated being called by her full name. She preferred it if people called her Jen.

Oh wait, that's me! :)

Howdy, LJ world. I'm Jen, and it looks like the fourth season of therealljidol is getting underway. It's not a coincidence that I use the phrase "getting underway," because I was in the U.S. Navy for almost 9 years. I had many jobs - administrative clerk (yeoman in Navy-speak), journalist (military journalism = fluff!), and surface warfare officer (a.k.a. ship driver, or "the person who stands behind the guy/gal at the wheel and tells him/her where to go").

I left the Navy in March 2007 and moved to The Land of Opportunity, The City That Never Sleeps, The Greatest City in the World, or simply, The Big Apple. After a few months of "I don't know WHAT the hell I want to do," and three different jobs in 6 months, I finally got it together. When they say it's hard to adjust from military to civilian life, THEY AIN'T KIDDING!!! I only now feel like I'm settling down, and it feels nice to not be so frazzled all the time.

In the infamous words of Bobby Boucher, I'm thiddy-one yees owd, and I will celebrate the 11th anniversary of my 21st birthday in April. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and I left in September 1998 to sail the seven seas... and New York is the ninth state I've lived in since then. So much for the seven seas, eh? :)

Outside of my job, in which I have rediscovered my yeoman roots and am working as an administrative assistant, I am pursuing my MBA through University of Phoenix and will graduate in July 2008. I am a runner (currently on the disabled list with a bum foot, but returning to action soon), photographer, avid reader, and Google Wizard. Since I am not running right now, my endorphin rush comes from spinning, body sculpting, and yoga classes. I have lost 30 lbs. since I started working out seriously last April and have been successfully keeping it off.

One of my goals is to read 100 books this year. I am currently reading Book #79. Will I make it? It's too soon to tell, so stay tuned. :) I spend a lot of time on NYC's mass transit system, which, when I'm not immersed in the fascinating world of business administration (/sarcasm), gives me a lot of time to achieve my reading goal. I have slacked off a bit on the photography side, but plan to get back into that habit soon with a little road trip to see fall colors in the next couple of weeks.

I live with my boyfriend of 17 months and two crazy cats, Missy and Mollie. They are 3.5 years old and act like a pair of 15-year-olds with attitude. I swear they'd be wearing pink sweats with "Princess" across the butt and saying "whatever" if they were human.

I could go on and on about myself, and that's one of the things about me - I can go on and on about just about ANYTHING! I also carry around a wealth of random and usually useless information. I like to say that Random is my middle name! I'm also goofy, sarcastic, and sometimes quite effervescent. However, I am also one other thing: REAL. What you see is what you get!

Anyway, that's me. :) Nice to meet'cha!
