a joyous, magical feeling

Alegría was AWESOME, jsyk. My childhood, onstage, right on front of me. *_*

But seriously, I'd forgotten how much I love that show. The symbolism and allegory, the richness of the story and detail of the characters. It's impossible to watch everything going on onstage at once, but live, you can watch the characters in the background, their reactions to whatever's happening and their interactions with each other. The way the Old Birds are always hovering around, and the Black Singer always lurks in the background, mirroring the White Singer's actions - even at the end, she's the only character who doesn't come downstage for a bow - and the way the White Singer moves throughout the story, as if merely observing and commenting, oblivious that nearly everyone onstage is following her.

I'd forgotten the beauty of that world. I think I understand it better now, but I also have more questions. Like, why does the White Singer's overskirt disappear during the second act? And who is that person on stilts during Contortion? I think maybe I'll request it for Yuletide next year, because it occurred to me to wonder how those amazing writers would interpret those characters. Maybe next year I'll have time to do a full pimping campaign for it (along with Wild Card).

Anyway, that's enough happiness for tonight. Tomorrow's going to suck.
