I went to A-Kon! I went to A-Kon! ^^
Friday:
My friend Mary and her friend Ross drove up early Friday morning and we left for A-Kon the same day with me driving. We got to Dallas and after driving around in circles looking for the hotel and accidentally running a red light (>.> <.<) we found the hotel and found out we would have to park three blocks away and walk. So we did and got to the hotel and parted ways, Mary and Ross going to their room, me going up to CJ's room. After dropping off my things I went down to the pay on site registration desk and paid for my pretty badge (Mary said the picture on my badge was better then the one on hers). After I finished with that I returned to the room and helped CJ do her Aeris hair and checked my schedule for what I wanted to do on Friday. There was a ScollQuest panel that we all wanted to go to so that was one of our main stops and there we discovered that they were doing a local quest just for A-Kon with the prize being $5,000 in real emeralds (more on that later). After that we parted ways and wandered around the dealers room until we were hungry. So we gathered, with Mary, and headed out to eat at the Plaza of the Americas and to also discuss the clue we'd been given for the treasure hunt. After food we parted ways briefly to get some things so we could check out some places where we thought we had an idea where the coin that could be traded in for the treasure was. We were wrong. But then we were also right. Someone suggested we could try Dealy Plaza where Kennedy was shot, but it was getting dark and it's not a good idea to be walking around Downtown Dallas at night. So we parted ways again and I hopped into line for the Kristine Sa and KOTOKO concert on Friday night. Kristine Sa is an amazing singer, though on one song it sounded like she was trying to reach outside her area. KOTOKO took a while (*snort*) to get on, but once she did she rocked the room! Happy and with feet hurting I headed back up to the room, changed into my pjs, made my bed on the floor and went to sleep.
Purchase: New Asian-styled purse that was a bit more manageable for the con then my backpack purse.
Saturday:
Got up at 8:30am so I could get a shower in before the others got up and got dressed and ready to go down and get the next clue for the treasure hunt. I cosplayed as Winry from FullMetal Alchemist in CJ's costume that day until about 2p. So we go down get the next costume which is a compas rose with numbers on it that we never looked at after breakfast, or at least I never looked at it until after breakfast. After we got it we went for breakfast at the Plazas of the Americas. When we got back we split up and as I was heading to the main area with my schedule I rounded a corner and ran into the cast of FullMetal Alchemist minus a Winry. So immediately there were shouts of, "There's Winry!" "Winry!" "Winry!" etc. So I took off my watch necklace and purse and posed with them. It was fun! Then I headed back to the main events and did the events on my schedule until 2pm and then I went back up to the room and changed into my new jean skirt and a black button down shirt and headed back down. I voted for the expert AMVs (which I still don't know who won, more on that later) and then got into line for cosplay, which was an hour later. Cosplay was really cool except for all the fangirls screaming inappropriate and rude comments (in my opinion) during the skits. One skit though got a standing ovation. It was a Link and Princess Zelda walk on. Only it wasn't. As soon as they were through posing, Link produced a microphone and said, "Since I'm up here, I want to share an important moment in my life." He then proceded to get down on one knee and propose to his Princess Zelda and she said yes! It was soooo sweet! ^_^ Made people cry too. Also... they broke a chandalere(sp?). To one side of the stage they had a pirate ship that had an air cannon that shot t-shirts. Well... one shot was a bit high up.... It broke a part of the chandalere(sp?) and glass came crashing down onto some of the cosplayers who were sitting there. No one was hurt, but I'm sure someone got a scolding somewhere. So they finished the cosplay announced the winners and then kicked everyone out to set up for the Saturday night main event, Penicillin Nano. They were to start at 10:30p, they started at 12p. Yeah... not so good. But eventually the concert started and they rocked the place down! They were a VERY good band and I like the music so I've put down their name on my list of Japanese artists to check out in Japan. So they finished around... 2ish and they kicked everyone out of the room so they could clean up/set up. There was a question if the second band, Chromelodeon, was going to perform or if they were going straight into the dance. The last I heard the second band was setting up, but it was going to take 45 minutes so I went "Screw it, I'm going to bed." And I did.
Purchase: Two new Martial Arts movies: the new Tony Jaa move and Jet Li's last martial arts movie, Fearless. It turns out that the reason he's retired is that his body can't handle the stress with which he works. If he keeps doing Martial Arts movies like he does he's going to wind up a cripple. So he can still do action movies and stuff, but no more Martial Arts.
Sunday:
Got up at 8:45 this time and got a shower, changed into the same skirt and a new top and while everyone was still asleep I went down for breakfast and then me and Mary grabbed our stuff from our respective rooms and went to the car. On the way out I noticed that the parking garage for the hotel was advertising that it had parking (the lot signs weren't saying 'FULL' anymore) so I and Mary got into my car and drove to the hotel and parked in the parking garage for the convention center. We met Ross and his stuff on the way and Mary escorted him to the car while I joined CJ and Phil and Scott in their room with the next clue to the treasure hunt. It was a cryptogram and we broke it rather easily. Remember what I said about someone suggesting Dealy Plaza on Friday? They were right. We figured it out and headed on our way. We got there and we and two others from the con were the only ones there searching at first. We found nada, and then I spent two hours down there in the impossible heat with, at first CJ and Phil until they had to go do hotel stuff, then me and Scott, and then me, Scott, and Mary. We couldn't find anything and I was getting tired and I was soaked with sweat and getting grumpy and angry. So when Phil and Rob was nearly to the Plaza Mary and I left and headed back to the hotel. Ahhh... Blessed Air Conditioning, how I love thee. So we get to the ScrollQuest booth and they've let the cat out of the bag so to speak. They need their coin found and so told people exactly where it was in pig latin. So CJ calls Phil and tells them it's in the bushes somewhere. So I go around the dealers room one more time, round up Mary and Ross, tell CJ to call me if something happens, and then head home. We get to Corsicana and stop to eat and then I let Mary drive while I curled up in the seat with my pillow and slept until we reached Palestine.
And so here I am, writing about all of this while it's still fresh in my mind.
I had a BLAST and wish I could go again next year. But alas, I'll be in the bloody country that created the reasons for cons like that! Heh... alas my foot! HEEHEEHEE! ^_^
THANK YOU CJ for letting me stay with you in your room! I really appreciated it! ^^
And if anyone finds a picture of a FullMetal Alchemist group with a Winry with dark hair and glasses in it... that's me. So could you please share it with me?
^_^
