there is this place....
joe and i are so fortunate to know a really awesome older couple who get down and fuckin party like rock stars.....they are such amazing people who like to do all sorts of things with us like carve pumpkins, take shots, cook out on their chimineas, listen to great music, dye easter eggs, roast marshmallows, stay up all night long and watch the sunrise, etc....the list goes on....they are literally game for anything....anytime. their backyard is like an enchanted garden out of magazines. the landscaping is incredible with beautiful and luscious plants and vines and trees everywhere. i think there are only like 2 sections of grass that are maybe 25 sq feet each...the rest is flagstone patio, a waterfall and pond, a bar, a huge iron dining table that seats 8 under a vine covered arbor, another seating area complete with a bench, 2 chairs and a table next to the most gigantic chiminea i have ever seen. and there is a hammock that hangs in the trees among the vines and amazing growing things. they have an outdoor stereo system that is badass and misters so that when it is hot, its never really hot. there are lights strategically positioned in the trees and among the ground cover that make even the darkest corners not too dark. the lightening is perfect, almost eerie....you expect to see fairies and wood nymphs and other magical creatures. i dont know of anywhere else where the stars look as bright and the clouds make such cool shapes as they pass over us.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and now that area has just been expanded into another wonderland. their property backs up to a cemetery and they have a gate that leads out there into a huge grassy area where no bodies are buried yet. looking in one direction there is grassy field forever, in another the lights of the city, in another the antenna farm where all the tv stations have their towers with red blinking lights, and then in the other is the safety of the enchanted garden that is their backyard. for the last 2 weekends we have taken blankets and repeating bottles of champagne out there and layed in the grass watching the fire flies. they are phenomenal and it seems we have stumbled upon their playground! there are so many that they literally fly within inches of our faces, flying so close to us their wings brush our skin, they fly among us while we just sit there in awe over the electricity in the air. i mean there are millions of them, so thick it is like nothing i have ever even dreamed of being possible.
joe fell asleep out there last night. it was incredible. all my worries melted away. i felt like such a small creature in this huge world of busy-ness that i dont even know exists on a daily basis.
my soul is cleansed. the world is full of amazement that i can only attempt to describe. summer just got even better.
