Of X-Files and Cat Fences

I saw the new X-Files movie today, with friend Aoife. I don't know why I was a bit dissappointed with the movie ... the plot line wasn't actually very X-Files-esque. There were episodes that were better in terms of story lines. However, the Mulder-Scully characterization and dialogue were top-rate. I liked it that they didn't fall into the rut of Mulder saying "Scully, you've got to believe this" and Scully saying "Mulder, look at the scientific facts" ... then Scully turning out to be wrong. The movie was a lot more nuanced that the "traditional" Mulder-Scully relationship. The Karen jury is still out on this one ....

And, 4 days after arriving in Philly, Nutmeg cracked the mystery of the cat-proof fence. I caught her outside the fence and thought she had slipped past me. Then I threw her back in, only to have her emerge a few seconds later. With the help of her favorite toy, I got her to demonstrate for me. She hurls herself over the fence, using her back legs to give her a little extra kick to get over. Not sure if I'm going to try a second line of defense or just let her cross the line (assuming Merry, Pippin, and Schrodinger don't figure it out ... though I doubt Shro would, as he is too fat.)
