Shipping Meme: Day 25 - Han/Leia & Anakin/Obi-Wan
Day 25: Most popular couple in your favorite fandom (do you ship it too?)
Star Wars is my all-time One True Fandom, so if I had to guess, I'd say the most popular ship is Han/Leia. However, I know SW has a number of popular slash ships too, like Anakin/Obi-Wan (especially after ROTS) or Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, and I'm honestly not sure how they compare in popularity to H/L.
I don't particularly ship H/L, but I don't dislike it either. I don't read or write fic for them; they just don't inspire my creative juices/passions the way angsty couples like Anakin/Padmé do. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I do think it's pretty much anathema to pair either of them with anyone else after TESB, though, and I didn't appreciate the treatment they got in the EU: not getting to see their wedding, having most of their kids killed and/or turned evil, Han becoming a drunk, Leia getting shafted in favor of Mara, etc.
If it is one of the slash pairings that's more popular: I don't ship any of those either, but, after some time I do finally somewhat grasp the appeal of Anakin/Obi-Wan. There's a very deep, intense emotional connection there, yet deliciously troubled/angsty too. If it weren't for Padmé, I might almost ship them. I'm not too wild about automatically attributing a romantic component to every close relationship, however, and prefer to think of A/O as one of those relationships that transcends a romantic/sexual component.
