Just a quick update for those who don't have me friended on Facebook...
Most if not all of you have seen or read about the devastating tornado that hit the south Oklahoma City suburb of Moore yesterday. I and my loved ones are fine; the tornado hit probably 20 miles from where I live. I was at work when it hit, about 10 miles from Moore, but even there I would have been safer than anywhere else I could have been. I do have one friend in Moore who I haven't heard from or seen on Facebook since it happened, and I am worried about her and her husband and mom (and kitties).
I encourage anyone reading, who hasn't already done so, to send donations to the relief efforts or at the very least send positive thoughts and (if it's your thing) prayers to the victims. Among the casualties are a number of children - injured and killed - due to two elementary schools directly hit by the tornado. (I broke down several times last night after I heard the news that one of the schools had become a 'recovery' operation, no longer a search-and-rescue.)
The outpouring of support from everywhere has already been amazing, but anyone who lives in Tornado Alley knows how long it can take to recover from a blow like this and how long support will be needed for these people - many of whom have literally lost everything but their lives. Many of these people hit in Moore yesterday were hit by an equally strong tornado in that area 13 years ago and it breaks my heart to think of them having to go through this again.
So... thoughts and prayers for the town of Moore, if you can spare them. ♥
